Episode Transcript

Maddie: [00:00:00] 9-1-1. What’s your emergency?

Ellen: Welcome back to That WeeWoo Show, a podcast where we watch and discuss episodes of the ABC show, 9-1-1. I’m Ellen.

Alice: I’m Alice.

Bex: And I’m Bex.

Ellen: Welcome back to Season 6. Uh, we’re partway through. Um, I mean, so far it’s going a lot better than I thought it was going to based on like you guys telling me that you hated this season.

But we’re up to Episode 7. Big thank you to everyone who’s been listening to our Season 6 episodes. Uh, we appreciate you, and everyone who’s been sharing and interacting with, uh, us on social media, thank you so much. Uh, before we get stuck into Episode 7, Alice, you wanna let us know what happened last week?[00:01:00]

Alice: Yeah. Last week on 9-1-1, there was an explosion at Karen’s lab which left her without a spleen and Hen without med school. Those pesky explosions

Ellen: It just exploded right out of her.

Alice: It did, yep.

Bex: Uh, this week, um, we are going to talk about episode seven, which is called “Cursed”. Um, in which PAW Patrol race to the rescue when a fading movie star is plagued-

Ellen: Oh, God

Bex: by a series of near-death experiences. Sorry, I meant the 118 race to the rescue. Uh, actually, no, I meant Athena and the 118 race to the rescue.

Alice: Do you … Yep.

Ellen: Yeah. It’s like a band name, Athena and the 118.

Bex: Athena and the 118. Um, that is it. That is all she wrote for the promo. Um, our triggers for this week include claustrophobia, specifically, uh[00:02:00]

It says, like, wax over someone’s face. I would also think that the whole asphalt over the car trapping you would also be slightly triggering if you’re claustrophobic. So that would be one.

Alice: Yeah, that was scary, I guess.

Bex: Um, and a discussion about-

Ellen: It was more scary than the wax. Anyway, we’ll get to that.

Bex: I just kept on looking at the wax going, “How? How and why?” Yeah. And yeah. Um, so claustrophobia and discussion about predatory psychics are our triggers for this week.

Alice: Also curses, I guess.

Ellen: That, that’s not really what happened? Like, that’s about the guy who was trying to s- who was selling people stuff saying that it was from-

Bex: I think they’re talking about-

Ellen: like ancient artifacts

Bex: … I think they’re talking about Eddie and his abuela, that little conversation that they had.

Alice: Yeah, the tarot card thing.

Ellen: Oh. Okay. All right. [00:03:00] Um, yeah, so I guess this episode was overall, it, it felt a bit like it was … They were trying to make it another, like, mystery. Like, “Oh, what’s going on here?”

Like, we’re not really sure. You know, they had to discover what was actually happening. But the actual story itself made no sense. Like-

Bex: It felt like, it felt like someone said, “Hey, you remember how fun “Jinxed” was? Let’s do another Jinxed episode.” Um, except this is what you get when you are forced to write wacky hijinks and not coming up with wacky hijinks naturally Like, I feel like “Jinxed” was a good episode because it was just, it felt light and fun and it was wacky and funny.

This is forced comedy, and forced comedy is never funny.

Alice: Yeah, like “Jinxed” is one of my favorite episodes of the whole show, and this I was like, “Uh, okay.”

Ellen: But I did li- I think this episode was saved by [00:04:00] the acting and the, the directing basically. Like, the actual, the way that it was all put together in the end was quite enjoyable.

Like, there were parts of it that were quite funny. It was just that the actual, like, the actual story of what was happening was, like, ridiculous.

Bex: Yes, no, big Chim, uh, Kenny and Aisha and Ryan, they g- they kind of, they sold this episode. Um-

Ellen: Yeah

Bex: … when it was just them interacting. When it was everybody else doing the actual, uh, narrative moving the episode forward, n- nope, tuning out.

Ellen: Yeah. Yeah. All right, we better get into it. Okay, so this, uh, I’ve just noticed at the top of the notes you’ve got that it was written by Taylor Wong, who we normally really enjoy their episodes.

Bex: Who wrote “Jinxed”.

Ellen: Right. Okay.

Alice: Yeah, interesting.

Bex: Which is wh- which is why I’m thinking it felt like, “Hey, Taylor, like, Jinxed was amazing back in season whatever that was.

Can you do it again?” And she’s gone, [00:05:00] “Uh, maybe?”

Alice: But also you have to throw in this weird storyline about Buck as well.

Bex: Yes, you have to include this storyline, and I feel like the, the mystery was trying to find a narrative structure to fit the, the, like, what if everyone’s cursed? Well, okay, well, we can’t just have a series of e- emergencies where everybody’s cursed.

We need to actually have a storyline, a start, beginning and end, so let’s have this mystery around someone’s cursed, and they’re not really cursed. And, um, yeah, it just, it didn’t work.

Ellen: We had a lot of questions when we got to the end, didn’t we?

Bex: So many questions.

Ellen: Well, I did anyway. But, um, we’re starting with a, like, it’s basically an Amazon delivery, I guess.

I don’t know if … I, Amazon have not paid me any money to say that. Um, a delivery man-

Bex: And it’s not even … Yeah, it’s not even Amazon

Ellen: … has a box

Bex: ‘Cause there, there [00:06:00] is an Amazon, like, equivalent in this series, in this universe. Um, this is not this dude.

Alice: No.

Ellen: Well, he is some kind of delivery driver.

Bex: Yes, there is, there is a delivery that is being made.

Alice: Um, yeah, the girl meets him at the door, and I’m like, “Who the hell meets a delivery driver at the door?” Like, am I the only one who hides inside like a gremlin until they leave, and then I’m just like, go out- I- … retrieve my package and retreat back in again?

Bex: No, if I see my delivery guys coming up my front steps, I’ll meet them at the door.

Alice: Oh, crazy person.

Bex: Especially if it’s something that I’m waiting for and I specifically-

Ellen: Yeah, like this is a very-

Bex: … am looking for and don’t see

Ellen: … expensive thing. Like, I would’ve expected her to sign something for it, but, uh, she doesn’t. He just hands it over.

Alice: You’d think that, yeah, you’d think that there’d be gates on this woman’s house as well, but no, she’s can’t afford that anymore.

Bex: Mm.

Ellen: Was there not gates? Maybe, maybe she opened the gates for him and then came out to meet him.

Alice: Maybe.

Bex: But then how did the stalker car-

Ellen: I didn’t pay that much [00:07:00] attention.

Bex: … get in there if that was a gated community? I don’t think it’s a gated community.

Ellen: I don’t think he came in. He was outside the gate-

Alice: He was out on the road

Ellen: like on the street. Yeah.

Bex: See? So many questions.

Alice: So many questions. Anyway, they couldn’t afford to film in a house with gates, okay? Um, anyway, the woman brings in the package and, like, to another woman who is just like, “Oh my God, I thought it’d never arrive,” and it’s like, that’s not how the post works. Like, have you been tracking it? Because

Ellen: Sure they had tracking in those days, in the olden days, like-

Alice: They, in the olden days

Ellen: … a couple years ago.

Alice: Yeah. Um, so yeah, surely they were watching the tracking if she knew to meet the postman at the door as well, but like, okay, anyway. Yeah, so the woman who got the package is Alexis, and she is the second woman’s assistant. And the second woman is/was a movie star. [00:08:00] Like, she’s an actress.

Ellen: Uh, there’s a- her movie posters are all over her walls, which is just so, so tacky.

Alice: Yeah, right. So yeah, it looks like she was a really big deal at some point, and now is not so much a big deal. Um, so Alexis, like, mentions that she has a new stalker, and the actress, Felisa, is really excited about having a stalker.

Um, this is all based on the fact that there’s a, there was a car outside the ga- like, outside the house with a guy in it watching the house.

Bex: Yes.

Ellen: I can’t remember if anything actually comes of that now. No, nothing. He was just waiting outside the gate, right?

Alice: It’s the guy.

Bex: That’s Nico.

Alice: No, it’s the guy, yeah.

Ellen: Yeah, I know, but he doesn’t do anything.

Bex: Which-

Ellen: They just see him. He’s just there

Bex: … come to think of it, why was he there? I think she- Oh, no, because they’d al- they’d teased the unboxing, so he was probably following the tracking of the bracelet to try and intercept it before it was-

Alice: I think he wanted to try and… yeah, exactly.

Bex: Yeah.

Alice: Like, he was hoping that she’d just leave it [00:09:00] at the porch, on the porch, and-

Bex: So that he could steal it back.

Alice: He, he wanted to be a porch pirate.

Bex: An episode should not require this much thinking. Th-

Ellen: Well, I’m glad that we’re making sense of it after. Um, yeah, she teased an unboxing, but Felisa doesn’t wanna open it right now because she looks horrible, she says.

Alice: She looks awful, apparently.

Bex: No, she wants to open it. She just doesn’t wanna film it because she looks terrible.

Ellen: She wants to open it. Uh, she opens the box, um, because she says she’ll repack it tomorrow so that they can, they can, uh, do the unboxing in full glam tomorrow. She pulls out this, this, like, snake-looking bracelet, which does, yeah, it does look like it’s not real.

Alice: It looks so fake.

Ellen: It’s apparently from Pompeii. She’s like, “Oh, the gods of Pompeii are smiling on me. Wait, didn’t everyone die in Pompeii?”

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: I don’t… But yes.

Bex: But the bracelet survived.

Ellen: It, it, it survived the volcano.

Bex: It has its own certificate of authenticity to prove that it did come from the [00:10:00] ruins of Pompeii. Um-

Ellen: Mm-hmm …

Bex: and it is apparently a good luck charm for Felisa. Um, which doesn’t work because- … as she’s talking about the, uh, the bracelet isn’t a part of history, it’s a part of her story, um, she’s walking down her hallway and she stops under this massive wrought iron chandelier which at that very moment the cables snap and the chandelier plummets to the floor, trapping Felisa underneath.

Ellen: Yeah. It’s very Final Destination.

Bex: It’s very Final… It, I, it, the, the way that they shot it or f- um, it looks like it’s crushes her, but when we come back from not only the commercial but the 9-1-1 call, which I didn’t understand because the commercial is the transition. No, not commercial, the title card. Like, we get title card and then [00:11:00] we get a 9-1-1 call, and I’m going, “But the title card is the transition to the 118 arriving. Why do we need the 9-1-1 call as well?” Um-

Alice: Yeah, normally we’d get- Yeah … we just get the, either the… We usually get either the title card-

Ellen: It was the wrong way around

Alice: … or the 9-1-1. Yeah, but it was, it was weird.

Ellen: But if, if it had been the… the 9-1-1 call then the title card it, it might have made more sense.

Bex: It w- it’s still-

Ellen: Anyway, it doesn’t

Bex: matter.

Maybe? But, but it was two transition moments that when only one was needed. Anyway, it, the wrought iron falling, it looked like it smooshed her, but when we come back from the 9-1-1 call, um, she’s flat out on her back and it’s just pinning her to the floor

Ellen: Yeah, and there’s like a big pool of blood underneath her, which is kind of disgusting.

Bex: Yeah. Uh, so the 118 are dispatched to Felisa’s house. Um, Alexis comes out to meet them to lead them inside, explaining what happened. Um, Chim’s asking, “Is, like, the victim conscious?” And Alexis is like, “Yes, she won’t shut up.” [00:12:00] And we come in to Felisa yelling at Alexis for leaving her, and she’s like, “Yes, because I had to go and get help.”

Um. The issue is that not only is the wrought iron chandelier incredibly heavy, but it has penetrated through the wooden floorboards and is literally pinning her to the floor. They can’t get it off without cutting the chandelier apart. So that’s what Buck and Bobby are gonna do. They’re going to get the saws so that they can do a little bit of, um, cutting. Which leaves Chimney and Eddie with the victim, Felisa.

Ellen: Yeah, they work out who she is. She was asking them, “Is the bracelet okay?” And they’re, like, trying to work out if sh- how she’s injured, like, you know, if she needs any at- medical attention at the moment.

And she’s like, “Oh, I spent 20 grand on this thing.” So then we find out a [00:13:00] bit more about it. But, um, she can’t feel anything, so they think she might have a spinal injury.

Alice: Um, I do like that she, like, she starts going off on a tangent about some movie that she was in, but Chim is just like, “Oh my God, I saw your movie.” um, ’cause we’re like, Hey, Chim’s back to his movie-loving self.

Bex: Yes. I also love that Chim recognizes the name once … Like, he sees the movie posters and he clocks and he’s like, “Oh, hey, yeah, you’re that movie star.” Eddie immediately recognizes her.

Alice: Yeah, Eddie immediately recognizes her. It’s like, “Oh,

Bex: okay.” Yeah.

Which makes me wonder, is she, like, from, um … What are those Spanish soap o- soap operas that he watches with Christopher?

Alice: Oh, the telenovela?

Ellen: The telenovela.

Bex: Is she, like, from a telenovela that he’s watched with Christopher?

Alice: Yep. Right.

Bex: Or is he just like a s- … a secret soppy, um, rom-com kind of … Like, what is the movie that he watched her in that he, and watched it enough that he can [00:14:00] recognize her?

Alice: Yep. Yeah.

Bex: The, these are the questions that I have. Um-

Alice: These are the questions that we want answered. Um-

Bex: Yes. I don’t care about the actual storyline. Tell me about Eddie’s relationship with Felisa Valdez, ’cause that’s what I’m interested in.

Alice: Yeah. Oh, Eddie and Felisa have such, so much chemistry as well.

Ellen: Yeah, they do. And when they talk to each other they’re like-

Alice: And then they just never bring her back, and I’m like, “Oh, okay, never mind then I guess.”

Ellen: They, she had … Like, if I hadn’t … Like, we’re going back to last week. I, if, if I hadn’t known that Marisol was gonna be coming back, I would have just not even thought about her. But this, this made me think that maybe something was gonna happen with Eddie.

Alice: Yeah. Right?

Ellen: But, I mean- Obviously not in the end, but you know, it was different.

Alice: Honestly, my biggest shock about all of this was the fact that Buck didn’t hit on her once. And I was like, “This is weird.” And then later on I’m like, “Oh. Explains a lot.”

Bex: Buck is, Buck is preoccupied.

Ellen: Yeah, he’s, he’s abstaining-

Alice: He is abstaining

Ellen: … from flirting, apparently.

Alice: Yep.

Bex: But yeah, the [00:15:00] chemistry is insane. If you held, if you did like a, a comparison between the scenes with Eddie and Felisa and the scenes with like Eddie and Ana.

Ellen: Oh, yeah.

Bex: Like … he’s not supposed to be romantically attracted to Felisa, and yet the chemistry off- is off the charts. But when you put him with a character that he’s supposed to be attracted to, that he’s supposed to be in a relationship with, um, like, uh, I don’t know.

Alice: I mean, to be fair, I don’t, I don’t even know if they considered Marisol a love interest when she first-

Ellen: Yeah, no, they might not have known at the time

Alice: … or if they just lacked a love interest-

Bex: No, I’m not even-

Alice: and were just like, “Ah, she’s available. We’ll bring her back later.”

Bex: No, I’m not even counting Marisol at this point.

Alice: Oh yeah, poor Ana.

Ellen: Um, I’m assuming at this point they had plan- like, she’s coming back in this season, right?

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: Marisol. Yeah, so they would’ve known-

Alice: Well, kinda

Ellen: … that she was going to be coming back.

Alice: It’s not till later, so like, [00:16:00] possibly not.

Ellen: Okay.

Bex: But yes, chemistry with, um, Felisa when it was never meant to be romantic is insane

Alice: It seems Eddie only has chem- chemistry with people that the writers don’t put him with, like Felisa and Buck.

Ellen: Apparently.

Bex: Like when there’s no pressure, that’s when Ryan can pull out the charm.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: But as soon as he finds out there’s supposed to be … Which then brings up, like, Lena Bosco, who was supposed to be a love interest.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: Oh. That was a very sibling-like relationship.

Alice: And was just like, “Ew, Eddie, stop speaking to me. Gross.”

Ellen: Yeah. That was it. Yeah.

Bex: Which that could have also just been-

Alice: Or Maddie, who was also supposed to be a love interest, and even, um, Jennifer Love Hewitt was like, “Um, can I take Kenny instead, please?” okay, but- “I don’t want any part of whatever the fuck is happening with those boys over there.”

Bex: In, in that defense, I think they probably brought Jennifer [00:17:00] on and went, “Hey, we’re thinking of, like, your character is going to be with this character down the road,” and then she’s gone, “No, actually, can you write me to be with this one?”

Yeah. So I don’t know that that ever, like, got off, um, the, the planning, um, like the big whiteboard where they’re planning out the season. Um, but yeah, everybody else that’s …

Alice: Um, anyway, yeah, so Felisa’s under a big chandelier. Um, there’s, they’re worried for a bit that she’s, um, paralyzed because she can’t feel her left foot or something. Like she can feel the right one, but she can’t feel the left one.

Ellen: Yeah, so is she … She’s not actually impaled by this thing, right? Like they, they just cut it-

Bex: Nope

Ellen: … cut it and then lifted-

Alice: No, she somehow got, like, in between it

Ellen: … off the floor. Yeah.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: It’s just, like dropped and pinned her to the ground.

Alice: Um, it s- and so yeah, so they cut it-

Bex: It penetrated through. Yeah …

Alice: yeah, so they cut it, um, and manage to get it off her, and then when they get it off her, her left leg starts tingling, and they’re like, “Yeah, it’s probably just a [00:18:00] pinched nerve or a spinal bruise.” Um, so Alexis says that the bracelet must be working just like she said it would. And Eddie and Chim are just like, “The fuck are they talking about a bracelet for? But sure, okay.”

Ellen: Eddie, actually Eddie and Chim share a, like during this scene and the next, like, little bit, they share so many, like, what the fuck glances.

Alice: So many glances.

Ellen: Like they alw- they’re always just looking at each other going, “What are they talking about?” yeah. Very confused. But then they work out that this, this bracelet is a good luck charm, and then, and Eddie’s like, “Why do you need this? Like, you have a good life.” And apparently she’s had some really bad luck lately, so she spent 20 bucks, uh, $20,000 on a bracelet.

Alice: Yep. Um, so yeah, apparently Felisa’s had a run of really bad luck for almost a decade, and Felisa’s convinced that it’s a curse.

Ellen: And nothing works, but Chimney sa- Chimney says, “Don’t mind Eddie, he’s unnaturally resistant to anything supernatural.” And I’m like, “Oh, they said the title.”

Alice: Which is-

Ellen: Oh no, wrong show

Alice: That’s really weird. Uh, that, I mean, that’s really rude because Supernatural’s [00:19:00] an okay show. Like-

Ellen: Yeah, he’s resistant. Come on, Eddie.

Alice: Has he, has he even, has he even given it a chance? Like…

Ellen: Look, a lot of your fans are also fans of this other show. But yeah, Eddie’s like, “If you prove to me something is real, I’ll believe in it.”

Alice: And then yeah, Ch- Chim says he’s confused at the definition of belief, which, yeah. But also, like, another, like, thing about how Eddie has no faith at the moment.

Ellen: Oh.

Alice: But yeah, so they take her into the hospital and, like, remember when they wouldn’t go past the glass doors?

Bex: Mm. Yeah, they wheel her all the way through into, like, the beds, the back of the emergency room.

Alice: Yeah, just chatting

Bex: And then- Yeah … they g- like leave the emergency room without their gurney. Like, they don’t even transfer her to the bed. They just walk out without their stretcher. And I’m like, “Guys-

Ellen: Didn’t… I thought they did have it-

Bex: you’re gonna need that for your next call. Do you [00:20:00] maybe wanna go back and get it?”

Ellen: I thought they were wheeling it out. Maybe I’m remembering wrongly. Anyway, as they’re leaving Eddie’s like, “Oh, you thinking what I’m thinking?” And Chim’s like, “That we should hit the barbecue joint around the corner? Yes.” It’s like, Oh, thinking with your stomach.

Alice: Yes, I agree. I will also be- I will be coming with you to the barbecue joint.

Ellen: But Eddie has a feeling that something’s up with those two. It’s… And like, I don’t, at this point I’m, I don’t know what exactly he thinks is up with them. Like maybe, you know, he, he’s looking at the bracelet going, “That is so clearly not worth $20,000.”

Bex: Yeah. It’s clearly not.

Alice: It looks like, have you seen the, um, have you seen the girl on, uh, T- TikTok. I’m pretty sure she’s on TikTok. Um, but she does like “I knew this was fake, but I bought it anyway.”

Ellen: Oh.

Bex: No.

Alice: But she basically, she buys stuff that, um, is like the listing is very clearly AI, and she buys it to see- Oh … what they send. And it’ll be like- [00:21:00]

Bex: I think I’ve seen, did, did she do the geode cup?

Alice: Yes. She does like the geode cups- Yes … and that sort of stuff.

Bex: I’ve seen that one.

Alice: And it’s just like a printed like thing. Um, and she’ll do like dresses and that sort of stuff. Um, but yeah Eddie’s just like, “That just looks Temu.” Like…

Ellen: Yeah. Exactly. But Chim’s sort of still thinking about the curse. Um, and Eddie’s like, “Curses aren’t real.” And he’s like, “Here we go again.” I’m like, “Yeah, Jinxed part two.”

Bex: Yeah. Yes, which was a good, was like oh, okay, cool. We’re gonna be in for a good time, and then we’re not. But before we continue with Felisa and her curse and her like Temu, um, good luck charm, uh, we’re going back to the 118 where it is, um, Hen’s celebratory breakfast return, where Bobby’s gone all out.

There’s food everywhere. There’s giant, um, aluminum trays full of food. Athena is there [00:22:00] helping herself. Um, but-

Ellen: Yeah, she’s, she’s in uniform. Like she’s working, but she’s just popped in to have breakfast.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Well, considering Bobby’s cooking, um, I’d, I would do that too. I would find reason to be in the vicinity, and I’ll just pop in a- and grab some food. Um, but where there is all of this food and yet Buck is making himself a green smoothie.

Ellen: Mm-hmm.

Alice: Um, my favorite part of this is that like everyone’s real weird about the fact that Buck’s e- like drinking a smoothie obviously. Um, but Bobby asks Eddie, “What’s up with the green smoothie?”

Bex: Yes.

Alice: Not Buck. Like…

Bex: I think he’s asking like everyone at the table, but it’s a quick look at Chim-

Ellen: He, he looks at-

Bex: … and then look at Eddie …

Ellen: at Eddie, yeah.

Alice: Um- And also like Eddie looks, and I know that they’re focusing on the smoothie, but the way that it’s filmed is literally just like it switches to like Eddie point of [00:23:00] view and it’s just focused on Buck’s crotch as he like sits down and it’s like, Eddie, what, what is happening right now?

Ellen: He doesn’t even know what’s happening.

Bex: I, I don’t know what you were … I don’t know what you thought you were doing, Ryan, but it did not come off that way on camera.

Alice: To be fair, it wasn’t Ryan, it was the camera guy who like basically zoomed in on Buck’s bulge and like highlighted it. And then was like, “Oh wait, shoot, yeah, the green juice.

What?”

Bex: Um, my issue with it is that they’ve … They’re bringing up the, you know, Buck’s drinking these green smoothies. Chim, um, says that it’s because like he spent 30 seconds around a celebrity and now he’s doing the, the green smoothie thing like celebrities. Are we forgetting Buck 1.0 who would measure his body fat and tracked his macros religiously?

Alice: Yeah, right. Like apparently Buck is just eating takeout all the time now, and it’s just like, no, he just likes, he likes Bobby’s cooking, but he was never a junk food guy.

Bex: [00:24:00] He was like tuning his body to a fine-

Ellen: He was on a health kick for a long before this.

Bex: I don’t know if it was health kick, but it was bas- it was definitely he was doing everything he could to make like his body look as good as it could naked.

Alice: That, that was ’cause Eddie Had just started and he was peacocking.

Bex: Well, it wa- it was around the time that the, um, the firefighter calendar was going on. So it just- Yeah … so happened that Eddie started around the same time. But y- Buck is not a eat junk food all the time person. Um, I just

Whoever was doing the binge-watching of the, the, the show has forgotten that tiny little aspect about Buck. Um, and it annoys me. Yeah. So, um.

Ellen: Well, Athena wants to know which celebrity-

Bex: Yes

Ellen: they’ve spent time with. Um, and Eddie tells her it was Felisa Valdez, and Athena does not look impressed by, [00:25:00] by this. Um, and Bobby’s like, “You don’t sound like a fan. What was the last thing you saw her in?” Athena’s like, “In the back of my patrol car.” It’s like, oh no.

Alice: Yeah, I love that, I love that how Bobby’s like, “Oh, you must hate her acting.” Like, Athena’s like, “No, I had to arrest her.”

Ellen: Yeah. Apparently she tried to hit a paparazzi with her car, and went to rehab apparently. So I guess she was drunk or doing drugs or something.

Alice: That was a curse

Ellen: Maybe that’s how when the curse started.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: But anyway, at that moment Hen comes in so everyone’s-

Alice: The pesky cocaine, such a curse.

Ellen: Everyone’s excited to see Hen. I don’t know how long she’s been away for but I was excited to see her.

Alice: How long since she didn’t quit. Um, but yeah, no, she’s been looking after Karen.

Bex: Yes, ’cause Karen doesn’t have a spleen.

Ellen: That’s right.

Alice: She’s, so she’s been Karen’s

[00:26:00] spleen for her.

Bex: I don’t know.

Ellen: She’s, she’s been hovering.

Bex: I think it’s-

Alice: And she’s been hovering and Karen’s kicked her out

Bex: … I think it’s more that she had like major abdominal surgery.

Alice: Yeah, she had major surgery. And like her, her, her lab exploded and stuff.

Ellen: Yeah. She’s like, “Wait, what are, what are you doing here Athena?” like, “Why aren’t you at work?” She’s like, “I wouldn’t miss your first day back.”

Bex: But also my husband was cooking.

Ellen: Or this breakfast. Yeah. Yeah.

Alice: Yeah. So He- like they all basically like make He- like pressure Hen into asking Buck what’s with the health kick. Um, and Buck deflects and this is where like Hen pressures him and he admits it’s because he, like since he agreed to be Connor and Ca- Connor and Kameron’s sperm donor, he wants to do it right, like set them up with the best chance for success. And-

Ellen: Well, Hen was the only one who actually knew about this in the first place.

Alice: Who knew about it. Yeah. So yeah. Yes

Ellen: He can, he can tell her about it.

Alice: Um, but yeah, so it’s not just the green juice. He’s abstaining from everything. No alcohol, no junk food.

Ellen: [00:27:00] Oh, God.

Alice: No red meat, no fish. It’s funny ’cause Oliver’s a vegan too so I’m like, “When do you ever eat red meat and fish?” Um, so yeah, red f- uh, fish that can be, that could be too high in mercury he won’t eat.

And Hen’s like, “I don’t think swordfish has an effect on your sperm count.” And Buck know- goes, “No, no, I’m abstaining from other things to help with that. You know, trying to keep the tank full, not let the swimmers escape.”

Ellen: I’m like do we have to t-

Alice: And it’s like yep, dude. Like this is your co-worker.

Ellen: This is great workplace conversation.

Alice: You’re at work. Yeah um, so basically the, the point of this is that Buck’s not jacking off.

Ellen: So Hen’s a bit scandalized.

Bex: Yes. Which then supposedly makes every other scene where he’s trying to get to the fertility clinic to give the donation funnier because it just adds more time before he can actually jerk off.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Like, “Ha ha ha-“

Alice: Which is hilarious

Bex: “blue balls, aren’t they funny?” Ha ha ha.

Ellen: Well later, like when they’re going, “Okay, the next appointment is like [00:28:00] next Tu- like Tuesday week,” or something, and I’m like, “Just go home and rub one out. It’ll be fine, Buck.” Like, don’t have to wait

Alice: … it comes back, it’s fine. Like-

Ellen: It’s renewable.

Bex: I mean, there’s, there could be an argument that regular ejaculations would probably be better for his sperm count as well.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Yeah, probably. But like I’m trusting Buck’s ADHD that he’s gone down the rabbit hole of, of researching everything that would be setting himself up for to be a good donor. And so if he, if the research that he’s found has said that abstaining from ejaculation is, um, what is good, then I will trust the rabbit hole research and agree.

Alice: Um, funnily enough, my notes on this said, um, “Buck’s ADHD fixation on being perfect.” So yep. But yeah, we get like a, um, a little like montage to satisfaction, like can’t get no satisfaction. Um-

Ellen: Yeah. He can’t [00:29:00] get no satisfaction …

Alice: where the first time he goes, um, the clinic’s like, “Oh, we don’t have the paperwork,” but the paperwork was emailed over, but their servers are down.

And like, if your servers are down and someone comes and goes, “Oh, like my paperwork should be here,” you immediately go, “My ser- like the servers are down?” Not, “Oh, I can’t find it. I don’t know where that…” Anyway, um- … second time they’re closed for lunch and they’ll be back at 2:00 PM. And then the third time he’s asked if he’s okay with needles, but then the person who’s supposed to be taking the blood test faints at the sight of the needle, and it’s like, “Yep, cool.”

But it is funny that Buck then has to treat her.

Bex: Which culminates, yeah, which culminates in the fact that it has been four weeks since Buck started, or Buck’s made the decision, made the appointment, has gone down this journey and has abstained.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Um-

Ellen: Ah, poor little blue ball Buck.

Bex: And Hen says, “Don’t you think that this is maybe a hint that you should not be doing this?” [00:30:00] The universe is screaming at you, Buck.

Alice: Yep.

Bex: Now why is it that-

Ellen: And he’s not listening

Bex: … you can hear the universe when it’s screaming at Eddie, but you can’t hear it when it’s screaming at you?

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: Well, his ba- his run of bad luck turns around tomorrow, so he’s gonna go in, make his donation. It’s starting to feel like a whole other kind of emergency. He really needs to empty it all out. I’m just like, “Can we stop talking about your sperm please?”

Alice: Yeah, like I … No.

Ellen: This is just so wrong.

Alice: I don’t like this storyline. I don’t want to hear about this storyline. No. I don’t care.

Bex: I think my issue with this storyline is that they’re kind of making a joke of it.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Like, they’ve set Buck up that he is trying to do everything perfect to be the perfect spon- sperm donor, which has its own issues because this is not the first time that he has been required to donate part of him. And so he’s wanting [00:31:00] to do it perfectly this time, ’cause the last time it didn’t work.

Um, and then the show is making a joke out of it. Like, “Aha, look at Buck, he’s drinking green smoothies. Aha, look at Buck, he’s trying so hard to get to his appointment and we’re putting every single roadblock that we can possibly in front of him. Isn’t that funny?” No, it’s not funny.

Alice: Yeah, no. It’s weird.

Ellen: It is a little bit funny.

Alice: I don’t like it.

Ellen: But in a slapstick kind of way, which-

Bex: The only thing, the, the only thing funny is the, like, Oliver trying to run down the street at the end.

Ellen: Yeah. Yeah, that was funny.

Bex: And that’s just because Oliver, when he’s trying to do a comedic run, can do a very, very good comedic run. Um,

Ellen: He did do the flailing, but that’s much later.

Bex: That’s much later. That’s the only part of this whole thing that I find funny. The rest of it, it just annoys me and upsets me.

Ellen: Mm-hmm.

Bex: Speaking of annoying and upsetting, uh, we’re gonna go back to Lisa- … um, and the, the wax [00:32:00] incident. She is having a, uh, a spa day. She’s been left alone in the treatment room while her esthetician has come out to, uh, request some specific items for her. She wants the receptionist to box up some CBD oil and some sleep gummies, um, which is aimed at like-

Ellen: Just give her all the pot …

Bex: my client’s been re- having a really hard time but, it’s not in a, “I’m trying to get as much money out of her as I possibly could,” because she’s using her own employee discount for the items. She just feels sorry for Felisa.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Um, she goes back to the room to check on Felisa and she can just hear this like muffled screaming, and when she goes into the room, uh, Felisa is on the treatment bed, her face completely covered in hot wax.

Ellen: Yeah. It looks horrible. She looks like she’s got a mask on, but with no eyes [00:33:00] or anything. She’s completely covered in wax.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: And so she’s flailing around on this bed at this point, and then we get a 9-1-1 call. ” We- we’ve had a waxing injury,” and then we have to wait for the 118 to actually get there, and then they come in and she’s still writhing around on the table.

Alice: Yeah, this is weird as-

Ellen: So she must be able to breathe a little bit because-

Alice: Yeah, like she hasn’t been able to breathe in ages, and they’re still just like, “La, la, la, la, la. Should probably make an airway.” And I’m like, “What the hell?”

Ellen: Unless the, unless the 118 were like right around the corner.

Bex: But also, like nobody at the clinic has attempted to try and remove the wax from her face to help her breathe?

Alice: Yep, nothing. They’ve just left her there for however who knows how long.

Ellen: Maybe they have, but they couldn’t get it off or something. I don’t know.

Alice: It’s just weird.

Ellen: Who, who knows? But yeah, they kind of-

Bex: Like the wax would’ve set. They could have just pulled it off. I mean, it would be painful, but it would work.

Ellen: But she would be alive.

Bex: Yes.

Ellen: Eddie is the one who recognizes her again because he sees [00:34:00] the bracelet.

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: And-

Alice: And she’s the only person in the whole of LA that has the bracelet, obviously, so they’re like, “Oh, it must be Felisa.”

Ellen: Yeah, and she remembers who Eddie is because he says, “This is firefighter Diaz,” and she’s like, “Oh yeah, okay.”

Alice: Yeah, she’s like thumbs up, can’t breathe-

Ellen: Well, I don’t know. She’s, she’s panicking

Alice: … passing, still not passed out, but whatever. Um, then they take ages to, like, make an airway as well, and I’m like, “How fucking long can this bitch hold her breath?”

Ellen: So this is the scene that firefighter guy on TikTok did a

Bex: Yes …

Ellen: this video.

Bex: I think this was actually the first one that I saw of him doing. Like, he did this one first and then he went back and did other ones. He’s been going off on Lone Star too. It’s been hilarious. Um-

Ellen: Mm.

Bex: But yeah, so Hen tries to cut, the wax away from Felisa’s mouth, only to discover that the wax has gone down her throat as well and is completely blocking her airways. So they decide that the [00:35:00] best course of action is to shove a breathing tube down her throat.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Into the wax.

Ellen: Instead of cutting the wax out of… Like, you don’t wanna just pull the wax out or, I don’t know.

Alice: Look, they- they’re no Abby who can do a tracheotomy in a restaurant with a butter knife, that’s for sure.

Bex: Well, that would be the other option, just doing a tracheotomy, right? ‘Cause wouldn’t said tube-

Ellen: If it- if it’s all blocked, then yeah

Bex: … just go, like, into the wax and just get clogged?

Alice: Exactly. I don’t understand. Yeah.

Bex: Or shove the wax further down into her airway and potentia-

Ellen: Anyway, it works.

Bex: Anyway.

Ellen: For the drama, um, they get it in there and it works and she can breathe. She’s still f- panicking because her face is still covered in wax, but at least she can breathe now. Apparently the warmer was only set to 104 degrees, so there’s probably not gonna be any burns, but you know, Chim’s just like- Well, that was- … “Eh, we’ll just let the hospital take it off.” ‘[00:36:00]

Bex: Cause it looks like the, the kind of wax that they’d be using for sort of waxing appointments.

Ellen: Wa- waxing-

Bex: So- … yeah,

Ellen: your legs or whatever

Bex: that doesn’t necessarily, unless your esthetician is an idiot, that usually doesn’t burn you.

Alice: No. But like it would still be very uncomfortably hot for a minute.

Bex: Oh, yeah, definitely.

Ellen: On your face it would be uncomfortable.

Alice: Yeah, exactly.

Bex: Uh, 40 degrees is what it’s set to.

Alice: Oh, there you go.

Bex: Um, so they’re, they’re going to leave the wax on her face and let, get the hospital to remove it.

Um, and so they’re wheeling her out through the reception where Alexis is. Um, and Alexis is incredibly concerned about Felisa. Um, insists that she’s going to ride with her to the hospital. Um, Eddie’s Spidey sense is tingling at this point [00:37:00] because Felis- um, Alex- Alexis says that she goes everywhere with Felisa, and as far as Eddie’s concerned, every- he’s met Felisa twice.

Bad things have happened to her, Alexis has been there. So he’s starting to-

Ellen: Alexis is like-

Bex: He’s starting to get suspicious

Ellen: … a walking red flag to him. He’s not sure what’s going on.

Bex: Yeah, pretty much. Yeah.

Ellen: But he’s sure it’s got something to do with her.

Bex: Uh, meanwhile, Buck’s appointment is canceled because the power is out in the building the fertility clinic is in. Um, this sounds like a really dodgy fertility clinic. I think Kameron and Connor need to go somewhere else.

Ellen: I know. What the hell?

Alice: Yeah, they’re using the cheapest one that like she’s-

Ellen: It’s one thing after another there

Alice: Like they can’t even stay open for so that people can stagger their lunch breaks? Okay Like, sure

Bex: No, but here’s the thing. Why, why don’t they just turkey baster?

Alice: Yeah

Bex: Get Buck to ejaculate into a cup, they take a turkey baster and fwip.

Alice: Like the lesbians do. [00:38:00] Because- Like, come on

Bex: It’s not… ‘Cause Kameron is not the issue here. She can get pregnant

Alice: No.

Bex: So they don’t need to go through this fancy clinic, they could just use a turkey baster.

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: Ew.

Bex: And this whole storyline would not need to exist.

Ellen: But it wouldn’t be as fun for TV.

Bex: This was fun? Yeah. I wasn’t having fun.

Ellen: According to some.

Alice: Buck wa- certainly wasn’t having fun.

Bex: No No. He was getting no satisfaction. Um, so while Buck is off not getting any satisfaction, um, we’re gonna go back to the firehouse where Chim and Hen are restocking the ambulance. Um, and Chim is filling Hen in on Felisa and the bracelet. And then dun, dun, dun, they happen to find the bracelet in the ambulance.

Alice: The, the funniest bit is that-

Ellen: I love this

Alice: … Chim’s like Chim’s been [00:39:00] trash talking it. He’s just like, “Oh, it’s ma- it’s making the bad luck apocalyptic.” and then when Chim finds it he’s like, “Oh my God, do you think it heard me trash talking it?” And Hen just goes, “I don’t think it has ears.”

Bex: And so both Hen and Chim are just staring at this bracelet like, “Oh my God, what are we gonna do?” Yeah, what do we do? Um, Eddie walks up, sees the bracelet and just goes, “We give it back to her?”

Funnily enough, Hen is going along with Chim’s superstition because she’s all good with Eddie giving the bracelet back, but she hands him a glove first so he doesn’t have to touch the bracelet- Yes … with his bare hands

Alice: So he doesn’t touch it!

Ellen: Well, she was all about- Um- … the, um, the Q word thing in that, in “Jinxed”, right? Like, she didn’t want… once someone said it she was like, “Oh God.” So-

Bex: Okay, but they have proof of that

Ellen: … can’t take any chances.

Bex: I don’t think she’s necessarily got any proof that the bracelet is causing the curses, but she’s, you know, she’s ride or die for Chim. If he says it’s cursed, then it’s [00:40:00] cursed.

Ellen: Mm-hmm …

Bex: Eddie thinks they’re being ridiculous. He snatches up the bracelet, and then immediately one of the background firefighters does a massive, like, slip on a banana peel kind of slip and fall.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Which, okay, that just could be coincidence. It could be an accident, except they then discover that the, he didn’t just slip on, like, a puddle or a leak from, like, a, someone’s drink bottle or from one of the hoses. No, something in the building is leaking gasoline, and the engine bay is now being flooded with gasoline, and they need to evacuate the f- the firehouse.

Ellen: Yeah. My question is wouldn’t they all have smelled that earlier?

Bex: Don’t even question it.

Ellen: Like, I don’t know. I know that American, like, gasoline is a little different in formula to our petrol, but, like, petrol and diesel both smell pretty bad.

Bex: You could argue that with the trucks, with the, um, the trucks coming in and out, the engine bay just kind of permanently smells [00:41:00] like diesel and exhaust. So maybe a little bit-

Ellen: Maybe

Bex: … of extra smell is not going to trigger anyone.

Alice: Maybe.

Ellen: Sure.

Anyway, they hadn’t noticed until just then.

Bex: And then it was only because Bobby licked the gasoline.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: He, like, put his fingers- As you do … in it and, like, licked it, or smelled it or something.

Ellen: Did he lick it or did he smell it?

Alice: He smelled it. Yeah.

Ellen: He smelled it.

Bex: I don’t even-

Ellen: I don’t think he licked it.

Bex: Sorry, that’s my j- He’s still breathing … um, it’s Detroit Becomes Human and Connor’s just nes- um, ability to discover everything by licking it was kicking in when I was watching that scene.

Ellen: Eddie did pick up the bracelet, so he brings it over to Athena and Bobby’s place. I’m guessing he’s over there for dinner or something. They’re just, they’re having, like, a-

Bex: I

Ellen: don’t know … a cup of tea or something, right? Like, I don’t know.

Bex: I’m assuming, I’m gonna assume after dinner. Like, he’s got Chris squared away, and then he’s gone over [00:42:00] for, and interrupted their nightcap. Um, but he wants to talk to Athena about Alexis And Alexis’ relationship with Felisa

Ellen: It’s, it’s Eddie, it’s Eddie’s turn to get on the private investigator hat. He’s like, “I know something’s up, and I know just the person who I can rope in to investigating this with me,” and it’s Athena.

Bex: Well, Buck’s busy, like, not jerking off and drinking green juices. Michael’s in… Where is he now? Miami? Um-

Ellen: Yeah

Bex: So yes, so you’re left with Athena.

Ellen: And Bobby.

Bex: And it turns out… True, and Bobby. Um, it turns out that, um, Eddie has experience with people, with grifters, which is what he is convinced Alexis is. And he tells a story of when his abuelo died, um, his [00:43:00] abuela had a really hard time, and she turned to, like, the neighborhood witch, who would light candles, say prayers, and promised his abuela that she would be able to speak to her husband if she just paid money.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: Mm-hmm.

Bex: And she spent everything. She spent her life savings, she spent her life insurance policy money, everything she had to this woman, to the point where, um, Eddie’s father and his sister, like Eddie’s father’s sister, not Eddie’s sister, um- … had to bail her out

Alice: Eddie’s sisters that we never see. Yeah.

Bex: Hmm. Uh, like she almost lost her house. That’s how much money she was giving to the, um, to cura- the curandera. And that’s why Eddie is so worried about what Alexis is doing because he thinks that it’s, that she is going to rip Felisa off the same way this woman ripped off his abuela.

I don’t know why he’s so worried, because [00:44:00] he’s never met these people before in his life, but there’s something about Felisa and his history with grifters-

Alice: It’s because he has chemistry with Felisa, but sure.

Bex: Because he’s… Okay, but we talked about the irony-

Ellen: He’s worried about her for some reason

Bex: … where, like, he’s feeling worried and paternalistic about her, and that comes across as chemistry?

Alice: Maybe.

Bex: Like, can he only be, like, have chemistry with or appear interested in people that he just wants to take care of?

Alice: Maybe, whereas Ana was trying to take care of him, and he’s just like, “Ew. Why?” “Weird.”

Ellen: Maybe. Well, it- it’s just he’s, he’s showing concern, and that sort of, maybe that comes across as-

Bex: Con- concern comes off as chemistry

Ellen: Yeah, well it’s, it’s warmer, isn’t it, than just, like, the way he speaks to other women in his acquaintance. I don’t know. It’s- It’s just different …

Bex: it’s just weird. It’s weird.

Ellen: It’s different.

Bex: It’s nice. I like the scenes that he has with [00:45:00] Felisa. Um-

Ellen: Yeah …

Bex: it’s just very strange. Uh, speaking of Felisa-

Ellen: Anyway, Athena’s on board. Yeah.

Bex: Yes.

Ellen: Uh, yes. Felisa has now… She’s still on a quest to find something that’s lucky, and so she’s gone to an, uh, like a new age shop, um, that has a bunch of crystals all over it, which incidentally I love shops like this. Like, I don’t really particularly believe in any of the crystal stuff, but I just love looking at the cool rocks.

Alice: They’re really pretty.

Ellen: They’re so beautiful.

Alice: And they usually smell good. There’s, um-

Bex: They’re cool shops

Alice: … there’s a crystal place near where I used to… Like, it was in between where I used to live and where I used to work, and I’d pass it all the time, and then like every so often on weekends I’d just like message my friend who also really likes going there and be like, “Oh my God, do you wanna go to Crystal World?” and she’s like, “Yes!” And we’d just go and look at crystals.

Ellen: Yeah. I don’t know, all the different colors and they’re so shiny. Anyway Um, she’s looking for something, uh, that will bring her good luck [00:46:00] and the shopkeeper lady is saying like, “What kind of luck? Like in love, like finances, job opportu- opportunities?” and Felisa is like, “Yep, just all of that. Whatever you got.”

Bex: The owner just sees dollar signs and she’s just like, “Let me go-” Yeah … “and get the, like the really expensive stuff out the back because I have a feeling I can foist it off on you.” Um-

Alice: Yeah …

Bex: so while she goes and does that, Alexis comes over, ’cause Alexis is there too, um, and lets us know that Felisa has noticed that she’s lost her bracelet.

Um, and they are searching the hospital top to bottom to try and find it. They obviously haven’t considered that she lost it in the ambulance. And Felisa is pretty much like, “I’m done with the bracelet. I, I think I was more cursed wearing that than I was before. Maybe crystals are what I need.” And she sees this giant hunk of amethyst up on top of this display cabinet.

She’s like, “Ooh, shiny. Maybe that’ll help.”

Ellen: Oh, yeah. [00:47:00] Very cool.

Bex: Um, and she wants to, um, climb up and g- get it and Alexis is like, “Maybe-“

Alice: Okay, no but like, um, am I the only one who is just like, oh, Abigail’s so hungry right now.

Ellen: What? I don’t…

Bex: No, I immediately thought of-

Ellen: recognise that one

Bex: … I immediately thought of Abigail too. For all the Stardew aficionados out there.

Ellen: Oh, okay. All right.

Alice: Stardew, yeah.

Bex: That’s right. Abigail is one of the NPCs in Stardew Valley and sh- one of her loved gifts is amethyst. Um, although there is-

Alice: And there was, I think it still does it. I think it started off as like just a, um, like an error but then it, they just kept it. But basic- like sometimes when you gift it to her-

Bex: They took it-

Alice: … she says d- it’s delicious or like yum or something

Bex: … they took it out. They took it out and people protested and so he put it back in.

Alice: He put it back in, yeah. I remember there was something about it, yeah. Um, but yeah, ’cause like usually you’d like gift the villagers [00:48:00] like, Sam for example likes pizza and so you give him pizza and he’s like, “Yes, pizza time.”

Um, and Shane likes, um, like jalapeno poppers and so you give him those and he says something about it. And yeah, Abigail you’d give her an amethyst and she’d be like, “Delicious.” And it’s like, ah…

Bex: yeah. Pretty much everything you give-

Alice: Don’t think you’re supposed to eat them.

Bex: … everything you give Abigail is delicious, including amethysts.

Alice: Yeah

Ellen: Amazing

Bex: Um, but no, yes, so I did think about Abigail. Um, Felisa is not going to try and eat the amethyst, I hope. Um, but she does want it. Alexis is like, “Maybe we shouldn’t, um, purchase anything else that could be used as a weapon.” Um, ’cause it’s a pretty- … hefty chunk of, um, of rock.

Alice: Yeah, and spiky.

Bex: Um, Felisa’s just like, “No, it’s, um, it is just like it’s for protection. It’ll be fine. Can you go find a ladder?” Um, and Alexis is like, “No, I will [00:49:00] go and find somebody to help us. Do not do anything.” So she disappears out the back.

Ellen: Yeah, this is a pretty good fake-out in the end because I’m fully expecting-

Bex: It’s an excellent fake-out

Ellen: … this whole shelf to just collapse on her.

Bex: Because Felisa finds a stepladder, and you can just see the glee in her face as she’s like, “Yes, this will be mine,” and she pulls out the little stepladder, and she climbs up. And you’re just waiting for her to grab the amethyst and go, like, tumbling off the stepladder or the amethyst to come crashing down on her head or something.

Um, but before she can grab the amethyst, Alexis screams and then comes stumbling back into the main shop area with this massive crystal embedded in her side.

Alice: Yeah, she’s literally been, like, it … At the start I was like, did she just fall on the crystal? Like-

Ellen: Yeah … ‘

Alice: cause that’s something I’d do.

Ellen: Um, she’s been impaled just like, um, you know, the snowman. What’s that guy’s name?.

Alice: Yeah, [00:50:00] Olaf

Ellen: Olaf, that’s it. I was like- Yeah … “Wow, I haven’t seen Frozen for so long. I can’t even remember the snowman’s name.” Um, she, like, collapses and the owner comes out and they’re like, “Oh my God, call 9-1-1.” like, she’s, she’s giving them the worst 9-1-1 call ever. She does say where they are, but then she says, “There’s been some kind of an accident. I don’t know what happened.” It’s like, there’s a crystal sticking out of her stomach, you know what happened. Like, tell them-

Bex: Like you don’t know how it happened- …

Ellen: there’s been an injury

Bex: … but you can see the end result.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Um, but then as the owner is talking, um, Felisa starts to feel a little bit funny and we get like weird camera movements and fish eye lens, weird lens movements to sort of signify that Felisa’s starting to feel a bit woozy, and she starts slurring her words, and then the owner starts to look a little bit wobbly on her feet, and then they both collapse as [00:51:00] well.

Ellen: Yeah so some- somehow when the 118 get there, they’re wearing masks. Even though there’s, they said there’s been an accident, but no one knows anything about a … Like, maybe they looked in the windows and went, “Oh, everyone’s lying on the floor.”

Alice: Yeah, literally it was just there’s been an accident-

Bex: We’ll go with that.

Alice: I don’t know what happened, but we need an ambulance. And then they all passed out. But yeah, then they all come in wearing masks, and it’s like, well-

Bex: I’m going to assume that-

Ellen: Well, because, because then- … Bobby says, um-

Bex: That makes sense.

Ellen: “Buck, did you get that gas turned off?” So they’ve looked in there and gone, “Oh my God, there’s a gas leak.” so Buck goes off to turn the gas off.

Bex: They’ve gone back and got the masks. Yeah.

Ellen: Yeah. Okay, that makes sense. They sort of didn’t really-

Bex: Explain that at all?

Ellen: … explain that very well. No. Anyway, yeah.

Alice: Because they could have just passed out at the sight, the sight of the woman being stabbed by a crystal, but sure.

Ellen: Well, you can’t take any chances. Go in with the masks on, I guess. But there’s no gas line to the building, so that’s not what caused it.

Bex: Chimney has an idea what caused it. Felisa caused it.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: She’s, her curse- Yeah, because her curse is- Yeah, because they recognize- … [00:52:00] so powerful that she’s now wiping out entire rooms of people. Um, it, Hen notices-

Ellen: Hen finally notices the actual stabbing, because the owner didn’t actually say anything about the stabbing.

Bex: Yes.

Ellen: I like how Bobby’s like, “What in the world happened here?” It’s like, “Yes, Bobby, you and everyone else.” Um, they get Felisa out and give her some smelling salts and she comes to with a jolt. Like, I don’t know what those things smell like, but they seem to, to wake everyone up with a surprised kind of jolt.

Alice: When did they decide to use smelling salts versus the sternum rub?

Bex: Probably because they knew she was … Like, the s- Actually, that’s a really good point.

Ellen: I don’t know. We need, we need a paramedic to tell us that.

Alice: Yeah, please, paramedics.

Bex: I’m assuming that-

Alice: Why smelling salts versus sternum rub?

Bex: … I’m assuming the sternum rub is when you think someone is, like, so deeply unconscious [00:53:00] that you’re not even sure that they’re alive, and you need something really, really strong to get them out. Whereas smelling salts is someone’s just passed out and they can be easily brought back to consciousness.

Ellen: I don’t know.

Bex: I don’t know.

Ellen: What even is smelling salts? I’m gonna look that up now.

Bex: It’s ammonia something?

Ellen: Ammonia inhalants.

Bex: Which means it’d be really sharp.

Alice: Oh, so basically they just, like, if you use crystal litter in your litter box for your cat, just, um, grab some of that next time you…

Bex: ammonium carbonate. Yeah.

Ellen: It’s, it triggers an involuntary reflex that causes the user to inhale deeply, which increases the blood flow to the brain, so revives people who have fainted. Okay. Good to know. Uh, she, she doesn’t know what happened. She’s like, “Did I pass out? Like, what, what’s going on here?” And she wants to know what’s going on with Alexis.

But she doesn’t know what happened. [00:54:00] Nobody knows what happened. Um-

Bex: Nobody knows what happened, and before, um, Chim can find out what happened, he’s called back into the store, uh, because they’ve found Alexis and her, you know, her new crystal accessory.

Ellen: No, Hen found her earlier, so they knew where Alexis was. She was right next to Felisa. But anyway, Hen’s like, “There’s no way that you fell on this thing and ended up like that.” And it’s like, well, how do you know that, Hen? Like, I still don’t know how the, how the guy managed to drive it into her skin, but anyway.

Bex: It did not look sharp enough to pu-

Alice: No, it really didn’t

Bex: At all. Like, not just, not just puncture, like, to stab her, but to stab her so deeply that it perforates her stomach.

Alice: Right?

Bex: Cause that’s what happened here. Like, it’s perforated the stomach so that it’s releasing stomach acid into… Which apparently is not a thing, because number one, the blood would be diluting the stomach acid, and then [00:55:00] it’s n- like, the crystal would be blocking.

Like, even if it’s-

Ellen: Yeah, yeah

Bex: … reacting, the crystal is still like-

Ellen: The crystal is stuck into her. How is the gas coming out? Like, this whole thing, I was just like-

Alice: Yeah, like it-

Ellen: … that is just ridiculous

Alice: … plugged the hole, so how is the…

Bex: Yeah. It’s like you can understand that the-

Alice: Unless it’s coming out of her mouth when she went in and was just like, “Ah,” and it came out of her mouth. Like, I don’t fucking know.

Bex: I, I don’t. I’m guessing they’re, they, they’re saying that it’s like traveling-

Alice: And how did, how was it bad enough that it filled a whole retail space, but sure.

Bex: In that short amount of time, too.

Ellen: Yeah, enough to make everyone else pass out.

Bex: I… Yeah, I don’t know.

Ellen: Anyway, good idea. Um, not-

Bex: Interesting idea. I just don’t know that it… would actually work.

Alice: It’s weird. And again, we’re okay, like, we’re okay suspending disbelief if we’re having fun. This was weird.

Bex: Yeah, I wasn’t really having fun with this.

Alice: No, it was just weird.

Bex: Um,

Ellen: unfortunately, no.

Bex: No. Uh, so long story short, basically, apparently the, um, Chim takes a photo of the [00:56:00] crystal to show the owner, who identifies it is as marcasite, which is basically iron sulfide, which apparently when combined with the, uh, stomach acid creates hydrogen sulfide, which has made everyone pass out.

But again, like we said, how is the gas getting out and in big enough volumes to wipe out everybody in the room? I, we don’t know.

Alice: Yep, no idea.

Bex: Um, Eddie decides that now is the perfect time to do an intervention, um, with Felisa to tell her what he thinks Alexis has been doing until she starts begging him to tell her that Alexis is gonna be okay and they’re gonna take care of her, and looking absolutely distraught at the idea that Alexis is, um, something’s gonna happen to her. And so he chickens out.

Ellen: Um, yeah. He says, “You can’t travel with her. Uh, you can see her later though after we check you out.” So they’re gonna go. Um, Buck says, “You still think [00:57:00] she’s cursed?” And Eddie says, “No, but I’m starting to think I am.”

Alice: Sure. Okay.

Ellen: He’s cursed because he thinks something’s going on but no one seems to care that he-

Bex: Sure

Ellen: thinks it.

Bex: Why not? We’ll go with that. He’s also cursed because he is unable to reach anybody on Felisa’s team because they think he’s just another fanboy. He’s trying-

Ellen: This reminded me of all those, um, like, you know, the soulmate fics where people are trying to get in touch with someone famous and everyone’s like-

“No, you can’t.” Like, “But I’m their soulmate.” “No, you’re not.” Sorry, I’ve been reading too many fic lately, that’s why. Um.

Bex: But yeah, he’s tried calling her manager, he’s tried calling the agent. Nobody is letting him talk to Felisa. And the reason he’s trying to get in touch with Felisa is because he still needs to give the damn bracelet back, which Chimney discovers when he walks up into the kitchen area and sees the [00:58:00] bracelet on the counter, and literally recoils like a cat.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: He screams, basically.

Bex: It’s a physical jump back at the sight of the bracelet.

Ellen: What is that thing doing here? He’s like, “Okay.” Bobby says, “Oh, it’s okay. Eddie’s trying to get, like, t- get in contact with Felisa to give it back to her.” And Chim’s like, “Yeah, well, try harder.” I can see those beady little eyes looking right through me.

Bex: He’s so funny. And- He, like, picks up a tea towel and, like, gingerly lays it across the bracelet as if he moves too fast the bracelet’s gonna explode or something. Um-

Ellen: But then Buck just comes and picks it up.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Buck doesn’t believe in curses,

Alice: except that he does. He just doesn’t care

Ellen: about it this week.

He did

Alice: last time. Yeah.

Ellen: Yeah, but, but the bracelet wasn’t there at the, at … Like, they didn’t have the bracelet at the crystal shop, so [00:59:00] how could it be cursed? And then Hen comes up and she sees the bracelet and she’s like, “What is that thing doing here?”

Bex: Bobby shuts it down. She’s like, uh … He’s like, “Okay, why are you up here?” He’s like, “Oh, Buck’s got a visitor. Um, Connor and his wife are here to see him.” So he excuses himself, um, downstairs to talk to, um, to Connor and Kameron.

Ellen: He … But … And Chim goes, “Oh, what, what does, uh, your ex-roommate want?” And Buck’s like looking at Hen going, “Don’t you dare say anything.”

Alice: Nothing, nothing, nothing.

Ellen: And Hen’s like, “What? I don’t know. There’s nothing happening. What could be happening? There’s nothing-“

Alice: Yeah, so weird

Ellen: … “nothing happening at all.”

Bex: How …

Ellen: Yeah. “I don’t know what they’re here for.”

Bex: so Buck goes down. Hen’s like, “I see nothing. I know nothing.” Um, Chim demands that Eddie does something with the bracelet, whi- which he-

um, interprets as he picks the bracelet up, shows it to [01:00:00] Chim like, “Mm, see, bracelet,” and then tosses it at Chim. And there’s this great moment- It’s such a little shit … where Ken- Kenny goes to catch it and then realizes, “No, actually, I don’t wanna catch this thing,” and then backs away like it’s a hand grenade.

Ellen: Yeah. He’s like, “Why would you do that?”

Bex: Which Bobby thinks is hilarious and just starts cackling. And then Chim storms off to sulk in the bunk room or something, I don’t know. Doesn’t get far though because-

Ellen: Poor Chim

Bex: … um, we see him like a few seconds later when after we finished with Buck and Kameron. I hate this. Like, of all of what goes on with Buck this episode, this is what I hate the most.

Alice: Oh, it’s so- It’s-

Ellen: Yeah, this sucks

Alice: … it’s so annoying.

Ellen: Like, why would you come to his place of work-

Alice: He’s a fucking firefighter …

Ellen: to have this conversation with

Alice: … He can’t answer his phone all the time. He’s a fucking firefighter.

Bex: And he-

Ellen: Yeah, this is silly …

Bex: it’s like so apparently the fertility [01:01:00] clinic called Connor and/or Kameron because Buck didn’t make his appointment. And I’m like, “Which appointment?” ‘Cause the boys tried to g- there at least five times to get to the clinic.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: And so they’ve tried to call Buck. Buck hasn’t picked up because, you know, firefighter. He says he’s left his phone in his car. I d- it doesn’t matter. And they start going off on him like, “If you didn’t wanna do it, you could’ve just said you didn’t wanna do it. You didn’t need to just, you know, mess us around like this. And we know that this is a really big ask, and if you’re having doubts, then you…”

but we’ve seen how much effort Buck has put into this and it’s just, I wanna reach through the screen and throttle these people. I understand that they are, they really, really want kids and that Buck is their, like, last, is their, their current, like, salvation. And so they’re anxious and they’re desperate and they really want [01:02:00] this to happen now, but this is not how you go about it.

Ellen: No.

Bex: But the whole point of this scene is not, um, to, you know, be passive aggressive to Buck, it’s to out Buck to everybody else because these two, these three are having this conversation at the bottom of the stairs in the engine bay.

Um, and they are not making any effort to keep their voice down, so the Bobbsey Twins and their, uh, like the Bobbsey Triplets I guess, and their captain, um- … are standing up in the loft area watching and listening to this entire thing.

Ellen: Yeah, and when they get discovered they’re all like, “Oh look, I want you guys to go down there and clean all this up.”

Bex: Um, yeah. Eddie’s like, “Oh, oh, that, that’s, that’s where I left my turnout. Yeah, okay, good. I’m, I’ll go and-“

Ellen: Yeah …

Bex: Saved by the bell.

Ellen: Yeah, the tops of all these vehicles need to be cleaned. Okay, bye.

Alice: Yeah, the top of all of them.

Ellen: Um, Buck doesn’t care. Their reactions are so- He’s like, “I can [01:03:00] handle whatever they have to say. It’s gonna be fine. But you guys really need to go because the bell’s ringing and just fuck off out of here please.” And I have to go.

Bex: Um, which then leads to one of the most awkward, um, rides in the back of the truck ever.

Alice: Yep. Where they’re all just staring at him and then, like, awkwardly looking away if he looks, and then staring at him again. And Bo- Bobby’s like basically like re- like eyes on the rear view mirror waiting for someone to say something because he wants the tea. ‘

Bex: Cause Hen doesn’t wanna say anything, Buck definitely doesn’t wanna say anything, but Eddie and Chim and Bobby are desperate to find out what’s going on.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Finally Bobby’s like, “Okay. We’ll, we’ll just, we’ll let it go.” And Hen makes a face or Hen does something and Chim immediately points and like, “You knew.” And Bobby’s like, “Oh, thank God. We can talk about [01:04:00] this now.”

And so that becomes the, the more important- Oh, like- … um, conversation. It’s not that Buck’s donating his sperm, it’s that Hen ha- knew about it and didn’t tell him

Alice: Hen knew about it, yeah.

Ellen: Yeah, Bobby wants to know how long Hen’s known, and Eddie says, “More importantly, how long have you been holding out on us?” and originally I thought that he was talking to Buck, like, “How long have you been holding out?” I was like, he doesn’t have to tell you anything. But no, it’s Hen he’s talking to.

Bex: Yeah, I would also say that he was directing it at Buck as well. I’d buy that.

Ellen: Anyway, thankfully they arrive at their destination and Hen’s like, “Oh no, we’re here. Let’s go.”

Alice: Yeah, what a shame. Let’s go fight fires.

Ellen: And Buck blames it all on the bracelet now. Yes. Now he believes in the curse suddenly.

Alice: Now he believes in it.

Ellen: All right, back to, uh, Investigator Eddie. Oh, and Athena. He’s, he’s [01:05:00] definitely roped Athena in now.

Bex: He’s definitely roped Athena in. He’s hanging out at the nurse’s station at the hospital in turnouts doing paperwork.

I don’t know what he’s doing. Um, they’ve obviously just decided that this scene is gonna take place in the hospital and told Ryan, “Look busy.” Like, “You’re gonna be over here looking busy waiting for Athena.” Um, she has gone to check out the crystal shop and found and checked the security camera footage, which she has downloaded onto her personal phone and hands over to Eddie. Um-

Ellen: Yeah …

Bex: which shows that there were six people in the crystal shop before whatever happened, happened. Um, and then apparently she has gone back and checked the security footage of the, um, the spa that Felisa was [01:06:00] at, and discovered that the same guy was at the spa that was at the crystal shop. And E- Eddie immediately jumps to worst case scenario and assumes that he and Alexis are working together to fleece Felisa.

Ellen: Yeah, I don’t know how he’s joining these dots. He’s just got it in for Alexis, he’s decided.

Bex: Yeah, he does. It’s- He’s, yes, 100%, he’s just thinking worst case scenario of Alexis at this point. Um, we also learn from Athena’s investigations that the bracelet that, um, Alexis and Felisa were saying was $20,000, um, Alexis only bought it for $11,000.

That’s still a fucking hefty price tag-

Ellen: That is a lot

Bex: … for a piece of, for a piece of plastic. So they go to talk to Felisa.

Ellen: Yeah, Alexis is still not awake. I guess they must have had to do surgery on her stomach and everything. Surgery. So she’s probably still out.

Bex: Yeah.

Ellen: Like from that. [01:07:00] Um, she’s saying to Alexis that, “After all of this, we need a vacation.”

Like this is the point where I was like, okay, Felisa is in love with Alexis and cannot let her go. Um, they need a, a girls’ trip and, um, but then Eddie comes in. She’s like, “Oh, Five-O Diaz, what are you doing here?” Eddie tells her to call him Eddie. I’m like, this is where p- also the point where I was like, “Oh, something’s happening here with Eddie and Felisa.”

Bex: Which, I mean, it’s weird because he’s just like, “No, it’s just Eddie right now,” but dude, you’re in your full turnouts. Like, if you wanted it- Mm-hmm … to just be Eddie, show up in civvies.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Anyway, he has apparent- he has rocked up to, um, to give Felisa back her bracelet. Um, Felisa’s like, “I don’t, I could care less about the bracelet right now. It’s cau- it’s, like, way more trouble than it was worth.” And [01:08:00] she … The line is that, um, that Alexis almost died because of the bracelet, because of Felisa, and Eddie’s like, “Mm, I don’t think that’s true.” And so they take her out into the hallway, ’cause, you know, that’s where the best conversations happen. Um-

Alice: Obviously.

Bex: and Athena shows her the security footage from the crystal shop, which is they’re using as proof that Alexis did something. I don’t know what they think that’s gonna prove.

Ellen: Yeah, I-

Alice: Yeah, no idea.

Ellen: I mean, all the video shows is … It doesn’t show Alexis getting stabbed, right? What does it even show? The guy-

Bex: It’s not the smoking, it’s not the smoking gun that they think it is.

Alice: No.

Bex: Um,

Ellen: but- Yeah.

Alice: Like, “Oh, look. Alexis was at the crystal shop,” and she’s like, “Yeah, I know.

Bex: I took her there.”

Alice: It was me.

Ellen: I was there. Like, yeah. I took her there.

Alice: Like, she drove me. But sure …

Bex: but we find out in this scene that, um, Alexis is the only person that, um, Felisa can count [01:09:00] on, um, because everybody else in her life is gone.

They’re either dead, they’ve disappeared. She got herself emancipated from her family when she was 16. Um, so she has nobody but Alexis, which is why she’s so adamant that Alexis would not hurt her.

Ellen: And even after Eddie says that, tells her that she only paid 11,000 for the bracelet, Felisa’s still like, “No, you don’t have anything here. You, all you’ve got is two-“

Alice: Yeah, you’ve just got two grainy videos of two guys in hats.

Ellen: “So I can take care of myself. Uh, it’ll be fine.”

Bex: Athena senses that Felisa may be right, but sh- if she’s wrong, there is someone out there, and she could still be in danger, um, which does apparently sink in, um, because she leaves the hospital.

I think she gets a car back to the crystal shop to pick up her car, which is now parking

Alice: Oh,

Bex: uh … is all over it

Alice: Athena also says that, [01:10:00] um, that the thing that she believes in less than a curse is a coincidence

Bex: Really? Three-quarters of your investigations are based on coincidences

Alice: Yeah, like you think-

Bex: But okay …

Alice: but anyway

Bex: Now you don’t like them

Alice: Um, it, but it comes back later even if it’s stupid

Bex: Yeah. Um, so Felisa goes back, picks up her car, gets all the parking tickets off it. Um, rep- recites a mantra that she can take care of herself as she drives herself back home, um, but immediately notices a car following her.

And like we as the audience, we can see that it’s, um, the sil- same silver car that Alexis saw at the beginning of the episode

Ellen: It feels a bit like just paranoia on, on her part really.

Bex: Yeah. It’s, Felisa can’t, all she can see is headlights. Admittedly, the headlights are very bright and very close

Ellen: And then the cars start, both of the cars start screeching around the corners so that [01:11:00] w- so we know that they’re actually like, you know, h- in the middle of the chase

Bex: They’re

Alice: running around the back

Bex: lots There’s some shooting happening Of, um-

Alice: Yeah. This, like- … this whole scene just felt so off to me. It just looked like they, they were on a back lot

Bex: They probably were

Alice: They were, uh, they absolutely were. But they u- like, they often are. Um, but like, it just, it looked like they were on back lots

Bex: If they turned the wrong corner you’d see the tourists in the little car being like traveled around and like, “Here’s-“

Alice: Yeah, exactly

Bex: “where we shoot 9-1-1. Oh look,” “Here’s the s- here’s the stars of the day.”

Alice: Yeah

Bex: “Everybody wave.”

Alice: Yeah. See Oliver walking his dog past, and he’s like, “Oh shoot, you’re doing the car shoot scene here? My bad.”

Ellen: Well, she calls 9-1-1 anyway, and we finally, we get to see Maddie. She gets her little cameo in this episode

Alice: I know, maddie’s in this episode finally

Ellen: Hi, Maddie!

Alice: Don’t know where she’s been, but um …

Ellen: She’s been at work, obviously, the whole time

Alice: Yeah

Ellen: [01:12:00] Um, and so has Chim, so I don’t know who’s got the baby. But anyway, um, “I’m driving my car and I think someone’s following me.”

So Maddie puts her on route to a police station, and like broadcasts to the LAPD channel that, you know, this blah, blah, blah, this vehicle is in pursuit of this other vehicle. And Athena’s like, “Oh, fuck. That’s my girl.” ‘

Bex: Cause Maddie’s like, “Okay, victim is on this road going this way. It’s in car. Victim’s name is Felisa Valdez.” and Athena’s just going, “Oh, fuck no. Okay, I’m on it.”

Ellen: I’m on it. Let me go and get her

Um, she’s, so she’s driving all over the place. The c- the tires are screeching. It’s, I don’t know, it’s dark, so I don’t know what she’s hoping to do

Alice: Backlots are happening

Ellen: There’s roadworks happening in the middle of the night as they do, and she crashes into a truck that, the tray tips [01:13:00] up and pours asphalt all over her car.

Bex: Yeah.

Ellen: Like hot asphalt. Yeah. Which I don’t think would be in the back of a tip truck like that. I don’t know, maybe they do road laying differently in LA, but we have these huge machines that lay asphalt. Um, anyway I only know that because the- they’re resurfacing, like, the highway just near my place, and

Alice: So you’re like, “Oh, look.”

Ellen: So m- Asphalt So it, at night, they do the work at night, so if you are driving home at, like, 9:00 PM, you have to sit in this traffic for ages because they’ve shut off half of the highway. Oh, yeah. And like, you have to go at, like, 20 kilometers an hour past this gigantic machines that are laying, um… Like, they have one machine that’s, like, digging up the highway, and they dig probably, like, a foot of, like, surface off there, and, like, shu- chuck it in a truck, and then the machine in [01:14:00] front of it, no, it must be behind it, comes along after it and lays all the asphalt on, on behind it.

It’s amazing. But yeah, they’re taking fucking forever. It was supposed to be finished at the end of July, and it’s, they’ve just extended it to the end of… No. They were supposed to be finishing at the end of June, and they’ve now, it’s now it’s the end of July on the sign. I’m like, “Oh, great.” Anyway, long story.

Um, she’s got asphalt all over her car. She can’t get out. She can’t breathe because the fumes.

Bex: And the car that was chasing her does not immediately speed away, um, because LAPD are immediately able to box it in. Um, my other question was how do they know that that was the car that was chasing her? ‘Cause there were several other cars-

Alice: Yeah

Bex: on the road, and we don’t, never got any sort of description of the car because Felisa couldn’t see ’cause it was dark and headlights. But they’ve immediately just stopped the last car that was behind her and going, “Yep, that’s him. Cuff him, [01:15:00] Dennis.”

Ellen: Athena is just that good.

Bex: Apparently. Um, so they get the driver out, get him under arrest. Athena calls, uh, for fire and rescue. They dispatch the 118, and all through this scene, everyone is coughing and spluttering because of the fumes of the asphalt. Where are their rebreathers?

Alice: Yeah, now they don’t have masks on.

Ellen: Now they don’t have the masks on.

Alice: Like, where are their masks now? Why did they have the masks when people just fainted, and now- Like, I don’t understand.

Bex: And now that everyone’s, like, actively hacking and coughing and inhaling- Yeah, no masks … fumes, now they’re like, “No, just suck it up.” Yeah. Like, don’t actually suck it up ’cause that’s gonna be bad for your lungs, but you, you just, you just need to tough it out. I’m wondering if someone made the decision, like, “No, we’ve already had one scene with everybody in masks, and it doesn’t play well on screen to have all their [01:16:00] faces covered, so we need to, like, no masks this one so we can see all their pretty, pretty faces.”

Um, it just doesn’t make logical sense- Maybe … that the one emergency that we, the audience, can see is where they would need their masks on for is the one that they don’t have their masks on for.

Alice: It’s, it’s fucking weird. It’s so dumb. But sure, just cough while you’re trying to get the, that-

Bex: Cause, we-

Alice: Um, trying to get the ashphalt off

Bex: … if they put their masks, if they put their masks on, you’d still have Felisa coughing and spluttering. So there would still be something on screen letting us know that, yes, this air is toxic. Yes, there is a danger. They need to move fast because otherwise Felisa’s gonna die.

They didn’t all need to be suffering at the same time

Ellen: Yeah. But they all s-stand around coughing for a little while, while they decide what to do about it. And then they try and, you know, get the, the stuff off, but they can’t, and then they end up, um, you know, having to… What do they even do? They, like, get, like, a flamethrower or something and [01:17:00] try and make it warmer again so they can move it, or- Um,

Bex: I couldn’t understand.

So Eddie breaks out the acetyl- the acetylene, I think that’s how you say it, acetylene torch. Yeah. And I don’t know whether he’s trying to heat the asphalt again so that they can… ‘Cause the issue is that it’s cooling and it’s hard-

Ellen: It’s cooling down as it’s getting harder, yeah …

Bex: because it’s cooling. Yeah. Um, so I don’t know if Eddie is trying to warm the asphalt up so that they could move it, or whether he’s trying to cut it into chunks so that they can remove it. It- it’s, they never actually make it clear, but I’m not really worried because we get Ryan with the, the torch and the, the mask, and it’s all very…

I like it when they get to use their tools. It’s fun. So Eddie’s doing that. Chim has smashed in the, one of the- … the lights in the back, um, which they’ve then fed a flexible hose through that’s attached to an O2 tank to try and get oxygen to Felisa, which fails because she did not think to lay the [01:18:00] seats down in the back seat, so she can’t get into the trunk.

Ellen: Yeah, she’s trying to crawl through the tiny little hole in the middle of the back seats.

Bex: Like, dude, just push the button and lay the seat down, and then you can get in.

Ellen: Yeah. Yeah. She couldn’t do that.

Bex: I, but I will… You know, sh- she’s losing oxygen. She’s not thinking straight. I’ll give her that It’s fine though because whatever Eddie’s doing works.

They manage to get the asphalt off the door and get the door open and get her out.

Ellen: Oh, we have an extra firefighter here who we don’t know, uh, whose last name is Chapman apparently.

Bex: Yes.

Ellen: One of your background firefighters for your fic?

Alice: Yep.

Bex: Yes. Excellent. Who looked feminine so I’m going to say that that’s Julie.

I’m just … I know that there are probably more than, like, two women at the 118, um, other than Hen, but I’m going to say that that’s Julie. Um, so they get, uh, Felisa onto the gurney. Julie helps. Um, [01:19:00] they get her to the ambulance and Athena decides in, like, her infinite wisdom that the most circuitous route to get the driver from his car to the squad cars is past the ambulance so she can check in on Felisa and also get Felisa the opportunity to talk to this guy that was, like, chasing her.

Alice: It just, it’s so fucking weird.

Bex: Um, who tells Felisa that he is sorry and he didn’t mean to hurt anyone. Um, but-

Ellen: Like, you clearly did though. But- But okay.

Bex: Yeah. Like, like I’m really-

Ellen: You stabbed someone.

Bex: Like, “I didn’t mean to hurt anyone but, um, hey, can you tell me where your bracelet is?” “

Alice: Yeah. Like I just want the bracelet.”

Ellen: Oh, this is so weird.

Bex: So she takes it off ’cause she’s still got it on her wrist and just yeets it at his face. And, um, I love the fact that LAPD just let her do that, and it hits him on the face, um, and bounces off onto the [01:20:00] ground, makes this metallic clattering. And I’m going, “My dudes, that thing is nowhere near metal.” that’s the most plastic to ever plastic. It’s,

Alice: yeah. Like, their budget wasn’t high in this episode at all, was it, Shaw?

Bex: Um-

Ellen: Yeah …

Bex: and Eddie’s like, “Oh, look at that. I think you broke your curse.”

Ellen: And she gives him the look. No. Like, “Seriously?” I thought this was gonna be, like, the end, but no, we have to go and interrogate-

Alice: Yeah, it keeps going

Ellen: the dude, um, and find out what his deal is. So-

Bex: But it’s not even just interrogate the dude, it’s it looks like we’re gonna start interrogating the dude and then it’s just Athena explaining the interrogation to the 118 over lunch.

Alice: But it’s weird.

Ellen: Yeah, but the, the interrogation part makes absolutely no sense anyway because- He just sits down, or she sits down and she just says, “Explain,” which I’m like, “Okay, yeah, good, explain,” ’cause this, I don’t know who this guy [01:21:00] is or what he’s doing, so.

And he just says, “She, she clicked the box.” And Athena’s like, “Excuse me?” I’m like, “Yes, me too. Ex- what, what are you talking about?” Yeah. What? Apparently she accepted the terms and conditions, so she should have known this would happen. And Athena’s like, “I’m gonna need a little more here.” So that’s when we get to the point where she is now telling instead of showing.

Oh, and a little bit of showing- Yes … I guess in the background, but, you know.

Bex: Yeah, that’s … It’s very much telling. Telling the 118 and then telling the audience, rather than letting us actually see what happens.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Um, so long story short, this is Nico. He operates artifactsoverstock.com. Wouldn’t the fact that it’s called Overstock kind of let you know that it’s not just one-off items?

Like Overstock is we’ve got too [01:22:00] many of them.

Ellen: Yeah. It’s, yeah, the whole … I mean, it’s very scammy. Anyway.

Bex: Uh, yeah, so he makes, as Athena says, trinkets. He m- she says he makes trinkets in China. I’m like, no, he buys trinkets off Chinese factories, like he’s a drop shipper- Mm-hmm … um, that look like ancient artifacts.

Um, and the, the kicker here in what he’s talking about with the, um, she ticked the box, she should have known this would happen, is that when you click add to cart, another box pops up on artita- um, art- artifactsoverstock.com that says, “Purchase of this item includes the following guidelines. Buyers will not display this item in public or share videos, social media posts, or photos,” of the item, I presume.

Alice: Yeah, so like what, you can’t wear it outside the house? Like you can’t … It’s fucking weird. [01:23:00] But also it doesn’t say buyers will not display this item in public blah, blah, blah or you will be stalked and harassed and like injured. Like what do you mean she didn’t think that that would happen? Like maybe get a cease and desist, but not, and as if those terms would come up, would hold up in court.

Bex: But then there’s the other thing that like Alexis purchased it-

Alice: Yeah …

Bex: not Felisa, so how did he know that Felisa was going to be doing … Wait, when she said she was gonna be doing an unboxing, how did he know that it was of the bracelet that Alexis had bought for Felisa?

Ellen: Oh my God.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: How indeed?

Bex: Because even if you, like did he, like was he stalking Alexis and then realized that Alexis was Felisa’s assistant so he started like stalking her social media and watching all of her lives and things like that?

Ellen: That is the most paranoid thing I’ve ever heard, but that is the only w- [01:24:00] explanation that actually makes any sense H- and Bobby’s like “how many other bracelets were recovered from the ruins of Pompeii?” Yeah. And apparently there’s 27 of them.

Bex: Yeah, ’cause it’s overstock.

Alice: Yeah. You’d think that there’d be more. Like, if it was dropshipping-

Bex: Yeah … it’d be like-

Ellen: If he bought it from China …

Alice: it’s 27,000.

Ellen: Yeah, he’s gotta get, like, a shipment of, like, 500 or, or something.

Alice: Yeah, that’s it.

Ellen: Anyway. Uh-

Alice: No wonder, no wonder he was selling it for $11,000 in- instead of, um, like 5,000 because he didn’t even me- meet the minimum import quantity.

Ellen: Yeah. Yeah. Apparently, so Nico had to get it back before the unboxing so that he wouldn’t be exposed as a fraud, and he, he snuck into the spa thing to steal the bracelet, but accidentally spilt the wax all over her Okay, whatever

Bex: Which I’m, like, I’m glad that they explained it because when you go- when [01:25:00] we first see Felisa with the wax all over her face, I’m like, “How the hell?” like, what circumstances? ‘Cause you don’t have wax all over your face. It’s not some kind of weird, um, facial service. No. But then they explain it-

Ellen: This, the hot wax part- … and I’m still like … probably should not have been, like, right next to her head either

Bex: On a table right above her head? Yeah, no.

Ellen: With, like, an, a cord hanging down that can be tripped on, but I don’t know.

It’s just silly.

Bex: Yes. Yes.

Ellen: And the crystal shop, he tried to get it back, but oh, what happened in the crystal shop? I have, I watched this, like, so recently, and I just cannot remember what actually happened.

Bex: So he sneaks into the crystal shop. Um, Alexis comes back to try and find a ladder to stop her own, um, her boss from, like, killing herself trying to get the amethyst.

Um, Nico, I guess, recognizes that she’s the one that purchased it, and he grabs a [01:26:00] crystal and, like, holds it up to her like he’s holding her at gunpoint. Um, she fights back. He tries to grab her as if he’s got, she’s got the bracelet on her, maybe to search her bag or something. They tussle backwards and forwards.

He stumbles, she falls, and as he falls, he pushes the crystal into her abdomen, which again, it was not sharp enough to pierce skin, especially in an accidental sort of trip and fall like that.

Ellen: Yeah, through her shirt.

Bex: Yeah.

Ellen: And like, it, it’s just re- It’s, yeah. Anyway.

Bex: Yeah. Nope So then he runs. Apparently he got out before the, the stomach gas thing started happening. Um, so then he is like chasing Felisa in the car to try and get the bracelet back.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: It is so stupid.

Ellen: Yeah, that’s all of the, you know, explanation of what [01:27:00] happened. So, Hen’s like, “Oh, well, w- that’s finished. Okay, let’s go get some food.” And Buck’s like, “I can’t, I have a donation to make.” And Athena says, “Oh, what kind of donation is that?” And everyone’s like, “No, well, okay, off we go. Bye.”

Bex: Hen’s like, “You don’t wanna know.”

Ellen: You don’t wanna know about that.

Alice: Yep. Yeah. Just don’t ask. Let him go. Goodbye.

Ellen: No one wants to explain it.

Bex: Um, so they head off. They leave Bobby and Athena, and Bobby’s like, “Okay, cool. You explained everything that happened this episode except the chandelier.” She’s just like, “The, the chandelier just fell.”

Alice: Yep.

Bex: It just, it happened.

Alice: It was probably just shit.

Ellen: Maybe the bracelet was cursed after all.

Alice: And, and yeah, this is, um, this is where Bobby says, “Could it be that maybe what we’re looking at is a good old-fashioned coincidence?” and Athena’s like, “Let’s just call it a freak accident.” It’s like, sure, okay.

Bex: Okay.

Ellen: Was Bobby even there when Athena [01:28:00] said that thing about coincidences before?

Bex: Nope. No. It was Eddie and Athena at the hospital.

Ellen: Okay. Okay.

Alice: But yes, clearly Athena went home-

Ellen: It’s fine. It’s just a, it’s just a coincidence

Alice: … and was just like, “We’ll call him,” and was like, “I hate coincidences.” and Bobby’s like, “Yep. I know, babe.” G2G.

Ellen: Unfortunately they happen.

Alice: Fighting fire. Sincerely, Bobby Nash. Anyway, now we get-

Ellen: Anyway, Buck is so desperate for a wank that he’s, um actually calling Connor on his way to the sperm donation place.

Alice: I swear, Connor, I swear I’m on my way to jack off right now. I swear to God.

Bex: No no, I’m pretty sure Connor called him. ‘Cause just, ’cause he’s on his way to his appointment…

Alice: I’m gonna, I’m gonna masturbate so hard, bro.

I mean, to be fair, this is the conversation he has with Eddie all the time, so he just thinks it’s normal bro talk. But yeah, so Buck says as long as he gets there by [01:29:00] 9:00 they’ll squeeze him in, and I’m assuming this is 9:00 AM

Bex: Squeeze him in, so they can squeeze one out. Yeah. Um-

Alice: Um, but like then they’re open till t- like a- what was it? Was it 8:00 to 8:00 or something?

Bex: 8:00 till 8:00, yeah.

Alice: And so, like if they don’t get b- there by nine, like surely they’ve got the rest of the day to squeeze him in if he doesn’t make it. Like-

Ellen: Yeah, but they don’t have any appointments until next week or something, that other time, so

Alice: I don’t know.

Bex: Again-

Ellen: There’s just too many people …

Bex: Turkey baster. What the fuck?

Alice: Yeah, or just fucking t- Anyway, um, so it’s 8:45. As long as he gets there by 9:00, he gets … He’s gonna be squeezed in. Um, and Connor’s just like, “Oh, are you gonna make it in time?” And Buck’s like, “Trust me, it’s all good. I’m only two miles away.” and then of course, Buck’s Jeep that he’s traveled the entire country with and took from his sister when he, like moved, um, starts like breaking down. Um-

Bex: To be fair, Jeeps are temperamental little bitches, and I am not at all surprised that it broke down. [01:30:00]

Alice: I just wanna track, because Buck no longer has this Jeep, so I just want to track if we see the Jeep again after this episode.

Bex: All right.

Alice: Because I’m pissed-

Ellen: Oh, this is the end of the jeep?

Alice: … if this is how they kill it. Right? Because it was literally, like it was literally Maddie’s way to leave. She gave it to Buck and then they kill it for this? Like there’s no… Anyway.

Ellen: It’s, we’re just gonna-

Alice: Anyway

Ellen: … call it the blue ball Jeep from now on?

Alice: Um, so then Buck runs. There’s a scene that’s very much out of Captain America: Winter Soldier where there’s a guy jogging and then Buck like runs past him really fast, and I’m just like, “On your left.”

Ellen: Yeah.

Alice: Um-

Ellen: He’s doing-

Alice: So yeah, he like jumps-

Ellen: … flailing, flailing Buck running there

Alice: jumps over people.

Ellen: Yeah, he’s-

Alice: Runs through a pack of dogs, and I rewound to see if one of the dogs was his dogs, ’cause there were these three huge dogs, but-

Ellen: was it his dog?

Bex: Would they have let him use his dog though?

Alice: Uh, f- just a background thing, I think so. Like I, I was sure it was Buck, but it didn’t look fluffy enough when I went back to watch, but they were just three [01:31:00] really big dogs.

Um, but then I was like- Is that his dog? … I s- because it, they come to w- like Bear goes to work with him all the time, and so does Jade. And I was like… no, I swear he said something about… But no, the, I went back and watched the interview and he tried to get his dog as the dog in season whatever the fuck, eight?

Seven? No, eight? Nine? Yeah. I don’t even know what season we’re up to. I think it was eight. Um, he tried to get his dog to be that dog, but they were like, no, it has to be professionally trained and have insurance. Yes. Um-

Bex: And have a, a, a trainer and everything like that

Alice: … and so it ended up being the beagle instead.

Bex: Yeah, that makes sense …

Alice: but, but yeah, there was these massive dogs and I was just like, “Are they actually his?” Because if he’s just running past them, like- But they didn’t

Bex: But it would, it would’ve had to like, somebody would’ve had to have been able to control them and make sure that they stayed in position and-

Alice: Yeah. Oh yeah, there’d be insurance and stuff about it. But yes, anyway, so Buck runs. Like, the, [01:32:00] this scene is funny, it’s just I don’t like the storyline. But he makes it. He’s like, “You said you’d fit me in, right?” And she’s just like, “Yes, liter- like you, you, I don’t care.” And then she hands him some magazines, and one of them has a man on the back, and I’m like, “Interesting.”

‘Cause that’s the one that’s, like, real held up to camera. But, um, yeah, so lo- like he, he gets to make, he gets to have his wank. It’s very exciting.

Ellen: Yeah. Hooray.

Bex: I just, I just hate that it’s, it’s all a joke. Like they’re m- he’s so desperate to help his friends, and he’s so desperate to please, and they just make a joke out of it.

Alice: Yeah.

Ellen: Yeah.

Alice: As they do with most of Buck’s existence.

Bex: Yes. But he does run funny, like when he’s trying to run funny.

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: Like, when he’s running normally, like his Winter Soldier run is, you know, not bad. Um, but then he does funny running.

Alice: Yeah, like I like that, but that’s, yeah.

Ellen: Oh, we’re still not at the end yet because, [01:33:00] I like going from Buck, like, finally getting to relieve himself to Eddie sitting on the beach with his sunglasses on looking very, um

He’s in, like, a singlet and everything. He looks great. Um, he is waiting for Felisa, and I’m like, “Ooh, are they having a date at the beach?” But no, he sh- apparently he’s managed to get in touch with her, and she’s actually showed up to speak to him. But she wasn’t gonna show up, but he did save her life multiple times, so he, she figured that she owed him.

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: It’s like, okay, I guess you’re not really friends then.

Alice: Yeah, turns out they do discuss Alexis here. I absolutely tuned out through this entire beach scene. So I just didn’t see it-

Ellen: Okay Fair enough

Alice: … being resolved because I just didn’t care at this point. But yeah, like, Eddie’s like, “Oh, but she stole your money.”

And Felisa’s like, “I don’t [01:34:00] care,” and that was it. It was like, okay, that’s cool. She’s basically stolen-

Ellen: Well, that is literally what happens

Alice: … she stole nine grand from you, but sure, okay.

Bex: But it’s the way that he asks her. He’s very sort of paternalistic. He’s like, “So did you talk to her about the money?” And she’s like, “I don’t care about the money.” And he’s like, “But she’s stealing from you.”

Like, it’s just something about the way he asks her. He’s, he’s not, it’s not a romantic sexual attraction. He’s trying to take care of her, like she is someone that he needs to help. Um, so dragged her down the beach. Um, and she’s like, “You know what? If sh- if fleecing me for like $9,000 is what it takes to keep her in my life, then go for it. Because I’m hard work, and if that’s what it takes to keep her, if that’s what she needs to take, then let her take it.”

Ellen: Yeah, well Eddie tells her all about how Shannon died and, like, that Chris was in the [01:35:00] tsunami. You know, he survived. That’s him right there, and, and Chris is playing on the beach and his hair’s all wet and it’s really cute, super cute.

Bex: Yeah, they dragged Gavin just down to the beach for one scene.

Ellen: Just this- Yeah. Just this one s- one scene. At least it’s a fun scene.

Bex: Barely on camera.

Alice: Hey, Gavin, come play at the beach.

Ellen: He gets to play on the beach.

Alice: Okay. Yeah.

Ellen: Yeah, why not?

Bex: Yeah. It, it’s not random. Um-

Ellen: Yeah, he says that they, you know, that he nearly died in this ocean, but he didn’t wanna stay away from it. They came down to the beach as soon as they could because he didn’t want Chris to be scared of the ocean.

Bex: The whole point is that, um, for that conversation, ’cause it sounds kind of random, but, um, Felisa, uh, had been telling Eddie about all of the loss that she’s been through, and she’s like, the only way to, that she can explain all of the loss and all of the bad things that’s happened in her life is because she’s cursed.

And so Eddie’s going, “Well look, shit’s happened in my life too, but I don’t think I’m cursed.”

Alice: Yeah. And it’s like, okay, cool. Good for you, Eddie. But if she does, like, whatever. [01:36:00]

Bex: That’s like, she’s like even okay, cool …

Ellen: invalidate her beliefs just because you don’t believe them.

Bex: And she basically says, “Well, that’s cool for you. I’m gonna continue thinking that I’m cursed ’cause that’s what works for me.” And he’s like, “Felisa, come on.” She’s like, “No, no, no. Nope. I’m, I’m outta here. I’m gonna go get my house saged ’cause, you know, I believe in curses and stuff.”

Alice: Yeah.

Bex: “It works for me.”

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Um, and she walks away. Chris is down by the water. He’s got someone with him, so I think Eddie brought him and a friend down, ’cause there’s, like, three of those little teeny-tiny deck chairs on the beach. Um, and like for a split second I thought that Buck was down there as well, but that’s just me and my… Like, the clown makeup is seeping into my skin- … at this point.

Like, the, the lead paint that the geishas wore. Um, but so Eddie goes sort of down towards the water to talk to Chris, um, and his friend. And, [01:37:00] um, as he’s doing so he pulls out his phone to call his abuela just because, you know, all of this stuff about the, the curses and, like, being fleeced for money has made him think about his grandmother, so he decides to call her.

And I feel like the first thing she tells him is about tarot cards. And I don’t know whether she’s picked up the tarot cards-

Alice: What? Hang on … What, what, what cards, Bex?

Bex: Oh. Oh my God. Tarot. He fucking says “tarrot”.

Ellen: Does he?

Alice: It’s like carrot, but, but, um…

Ellen: I didn’t hear that.

Alice: Less crunchy.

Ellen: Oh, that’s so funny.

Bex: I, I, I was wa- I was watching this scene and he go- and he’s, like, talking to his abuela. He’s like, “Oh yeah, tarot cards.” And I’m like, “Wait. Ryan, what did you say? Rewind.” And like, “Oh yeah, ta-” Look, it’s not as bad as Jared calling it Samhain, but it’s still pretty fucking bad.

Ellen: Well, they all, everyone called it Samhain, [01:38:00] so that was-

Alice: They all, yeah. I don’t think that was Jared’s fault

Ellen: … that, that was just a thing that no one knew how to pronounce it properly. But, um, yeah, I think-

Bex: But I mean, sure-

Ellen: … I would have thought that someone there would know that-

Bex: … surely Ryan has, surely Ryan has encountered tarot cards at some point in his life. I’m, the only thing I can think is that he’s, like, heard of tarot cards, he’s just never seen it written down.

Ellen: Well, never, yeah.

Bex: And hasn’t, like, hasn’t put two and two together. I don’t know. It bugged the fuck out of me that he was calling them tarot cards. Um, but yes. Apparently his abuela- It’s funny … is now into tarot cards or, um, somebody in her life is into tarot cards.

Alice: He, oh my God, he does. He just says “tarrot cards”.

Bex: See?

Alice: Oh my God. It just sounds like carrot, but it’s tarot cards. Jesus Christ, Ryan.

Ellen: It’s funny. But you, I think that someone would have picked it up that- Yes … he said that, like the director or, uh, someone in the cast or the crew-

Bex: See, that’s the other thing. Like, it’s one thing for Ryan to say it, but [01:39:00] it, but the fact that the director and, like, script consultant and everybody on scene just let him say it like that, and they’ve gone, “Yeah, that’s good. Cut.”

Alice: Yeah, that sounds right. Yeah.

Bex: And then it went through, like, editing and nobody thought, “Hey, do we get Ryan in to do ADR for that line ’cause he’s, like, fucked up-

Alice: Nah, it’s fine

Bex: … the pronunciation of tarot?”

Alice: Nope.

Bex: Um, so yeah. It’s funny. So we end the episode with, um, Eddie indulging his abuela with the tarot cards and asking what do the cards say about his future.

Alice: Yep.

Ellen: Oh, dear.

Bex: I still don’t, like… This whole storyline, we’ve met Abuela. She didn’t really come across as the, like, crazy lady who spends all her money on-

Alice: No, like, it, I, like, she’s got faith, but I don’t think sh- yeah, I don’t know. They’re just rewriting stuff to say stuff, you know? Yeah.

Ellen: Yeah, but sometimes the, like, [01:40:00] when she lost her husband, like, vulnerable people, you know, get taken advantage of in that way. So that, that doesn’t surprise me.

Bex: No, I know that. But, like, the way that Eddie was talking about it in a way, like he’s continued, like he’s called her and she’s now into tarot cards. You would have thought that if this was an actual personality trait for, um- For his abuela, that they would’ve sprinkled it through the other times that we’ve seen her in the series-

Alice: Yeah, no, ’cause that wasn’t a thing back then

Bex: but no, they’ve just retconned it. Yeah. They’ve just decided for this episode only, um, she’s a vulnerable old lady who gets taken in by grifters.

Ellen: Well, he, she does, he does say that’s new when he, when she mentions tarot cards, so, or tarot cards.

Alice: Tarot cards.

Ellen: So maybe this is the new thing.

Bex: Well, yeah, because tarot cards is… yeah, but that, but that’s what I mean. It’s like a new thing that she’s always got something going on, but we’ve never seen anything going on other than her faith, which, [01:41:00] like, that doesn’t … I mean, it does count, but it doesn’t count kind of thing.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: Um.

Ellen: I don’t know.

Bex: Anyway.

Ellen: Yeah, I mean, I didn’t hate this episode. I thought it was, there were parts of it that were pretty funny, but there were other parts that were just really fucking annoying.

Alice: Yep.

Bex: Like we said at the beginning, the acting was fun. The, the way that they were all interacting and the, the way they found the, the curse stuff, That was all int- that was all fun. That was all well done, but it’s, like you said before, it’s like the, the acting and the directing elevated a shitty storyline into something that was watchable.

Alice: Yeah. Yep.

Bex: I wanted to like this episode. I came into this episode, I think every time I come into this episode, I feel like it’s, “Oh, it’s another Jinxed. This is gonna be fun.” And then I watch it and go, “Oh, no, this is not fun.”

Ellen: I mean, parts of it were fun, and [01:42:00] then other parts were like Buck just being taken advantage of.

Bex: But the parts that, the parts that were f- like the other parts outweighed the parts that were fun.

Alice: I just, I don’t, I don’t like the Buck storyline.

Ellen: Yeah.

Bex: No.

Alice: Um, and so that like muddies this as well.

Ellen: All right, well how, what have we got? Well we, I’m hoping we don’t have too much more of the Buck stuff to go for this season, but don’t tell me. Just tell me what’s coming next week.

Bex: Uh, next week, PAW Patrol race to the rescue to a renaissance fair. Um-

Ellen: Oh gosh

Bex: and then an office building. I love the way they’ve written this. It’s like the 118 race to the rescue to a renaissance fair, and then an office building, as if the office building is more exciting than a renaissance fair.

Alice: Yep.

Bex: At the office building, an overbearing boss is poisoned. Um, Athena fears for May’s life when she encounters a disturbed young man. Uncle Buck babysits young Jee-Yun [01:43:00] as Maddie and Chimney begin house hunting. Eddie-

Ellen: Oh!

Bex: … and Eddie and Carla prepare Christopher for his first school dance.

Alice: Carla!

Bex: So we’ve gone from like a one-line summary to every single possible storyline- Every storyline … and maybe some others that could or could not actually appear in next week’s episode.

I don’t know. We’ll have to watch and find out.

Alice: Yep.

Bex: Um, our triggers for the next episode include bees, bullying,

Ellen: Bees?

Bex: A hostage situation, an incel character, misogyny, which I’m hoping is linked more to the incel character than to the bees. Um- threat of-

Ellen: Those goddamn incel bees

Bex: The threat of police shooting-

Alice: Well, bees are mostly females, so, like, it should be fine

Bex: Um, a threat of police shooting. Again, I’m hoping that’s more towards the incel character than the bees, but you never know with this show. [01:44:00] Um, and a threat of a mass casualty attack. Again, is that the incel character or the bees? Tune in and find out.

Alice: Um, yeah, next week’s episode’s the one that I remember none of, except my ex was telling me all about it, and I was like, “I think you imagined this episode.” And she’s like, “No, and this happens, and this happens.” And I’m like, “Not a clue what you’re talking about.”

And then I went back and looked it up, and I was like, “Oh, it is an episode.” And she’s like, “I told you that.” And I’m like, “I literally thought you were making up this episode. I have no memory of it at all.”

Ellen: Well, we’ll see if you remember any of it when you watch it. All right, do- let us know what you think. Do you agree with us about all the f- the terrible things that we said about this episode? I feel like we’ve been really hard on it, but oh my God, it kind of needed it. Um…

Alice: Yeah, sometimes they just, they need to pull the thread.

Ellen: So once this episode is y- well, like, once you’re listening to this episode, we, um, are gonna be having a couple of weeks’ break. Um, so don’t worry if we, if we don’t, if you don’t [01:45:00] hear us for a couple of weeks. We just need to take a couple of weeks off. We’ve got stuff going on. Um, but we will be back, um, in two weeks’ time to talk about episode eight, which is called “What’s Your Fantasy?”

I’ve, I’ve got ahead of myself, and I haven’t said thank you for listening. Um, yeah. Please let us know-

Bex: How rude

Ellen: … what you thought of this episode, and we will see you in two weeks’ time to talk about “What’s Your Fantasy?” See you then.

Bex: Bye.

Alice: Bye.

[outtake]

Alice: Um, I just heard a weird noise. Like, it’s raining really heavily here, and I just heard a weird noise and literally thought it was raining inside and I was like, “What the fu-” It’s just Autumn drinking.

Then I was like, “What the fuck? Why is it raining inside?” No, it’s not. It’s fine. We’re good.

I meet my delivery guy for electronics, certified mail, and things I know are coming that my mother has explicitly asked me to collect in person. (If I’m getting a laptop, I want that handed to me directly. Otherwise, I will send it to my office and let the nice security guard hold it for me until I get there.

“I thought the post would never arrive”. Spoken like someone with a functioning postal system. I will throw things if the US postal system ever goes private. I’ve lived with a private postal system and… where the fuck did my mail go?

Oh my God, I either need Felisa to be from a telenovela or else for her to have been either Sophia, Adriana, Shannon, or Abuela’s favorite actress at one point. (I suppose that doesn’t preclude the telenovela thing). I cant decide which is better and there are so many good (bad?) options. Eddie and Shannon were supposed to be at her movie the night Christopher was concieved. He then frantically watched a version he torrented to cover his ass and memorized all the details. She has a long running bit on a telenovela (maybe something based on Sin Tetas, no hay paridiso [which you can translate not on a work computer]; I should watch them to get back to actually understanding Spanish). She was on a kid or tween program that Adriana used to love and Eddie watched her with Adriana but kind of loved her anyway. She did some terrible PSA around the time of the movie and her abstinence only PSA is forever seered into Eddie’s brain. But, also, that movie It was one of those movies which was a transformative experience for a young queer boy who didn’t know he was queer. One of those pieces of media that just re-wired his brain without knowing it. So many both excellent and terrible options.
Im also not allowed to write fic until I finish the fic on my plate.

Buck is going to get a good grade in sperm donor! Which is something that is normal to want and possible to achieve. *rolls eyes*
But I also think I rambled at you about this earlier and I should convert to a tumblr post so… IDK.

Oh, you should 100% smell gasoline.

I think Buck is already cursed. Buck may believe in curses. (The man has a long history of believing in curses and the supernatural.) I just suspect that at this point, his two curses are canceling each other out: Felisa’s curse doesnt seem to have gotten in the way of her having a release, so maybe if he gets her curse, he can finally be free.

Not that you need more of my fic, but I kinda sorta wrote the 118 B & C shift guide to A-shift. With footnotes. I dont actually have your background fire fighter names. (One is very much Jacky Abbot). But, if you want it, I will leave a comment. It will be Ellen complaint in mid season 7. But, I’m still waiting for your background fire fighter fic!!!

So, the one thing I might suspect for Abuela and the taret cards is that we know she’s religious. And like, as a practicing Catholic, we are like 2 skips away from witchcraft at any given moment. (You know that teenager girl witchy phase when every 12 year old is ready to invent her own pocket religion? Yeah, there are ways to do that and be ultra Catholic. And ways to mix it.) So, mixed on Abuela being both “witchy” and religious. But, Id also love to have her show up somewhere and be like, “Eddito! I did your birth chart! It says you should be with someone big and buff and handsome with abandonment issues who loves you and your son deeply and keeps saving your life.”
*Ahem. My clown make up is peeking out.

    Misogynistic bees!!!
    Misogynistic bees!!!

I remember this vaguely because I am the idiot who did a Buckley parent themed re-watch because I hate myself.

I’ll look forward to seeing all of you when you get back from vacation (and Elvis?) IDK, our summers are very different.
